Barely Legal set For Sale (SOLD), by jB on Feb 21, 2010 18:24:14 GMT 1, Now that the Gold Flag has gone to a good home, I need to raise a couple more quid for my new lovely piece that I am after.
As the title says, I have a matching set of Barely Legal prints from Banksy's Los Angeles show. There are rumors that there are only a hand full of these sets still together, however I am not sure if this is true or not. One thing I do know is that I haven't seen many offered in since this showing in '06, maybe just one other set on here that mustard had.
Anyhow, I am looking for 5.4k GBP plus shipping (I will ship worldwide two day via Fed-Ex with tracking, and will mark as gift if you'd prefer to avoid any extra fee's) - this boils down to 900quid per print, which I feel is quite fair, considering the fact that this includes Sale Ends and Festival which have not been released else where, as well as the fact that they all have matching numbers.
The prints include ...
Grannies Trollies Applause (different version than the POW release) Morons (which is also different than the pow release with the gold frame) Sale Ends (never released through POW) Festival (never released through POW)
I will not split the set - Hope you can understand why. Each print is mint - and have never been framed.
Each of the 6 prints also have Pest Control COA to accompany it.
Please feel free to PM with questions - and pictures, however I am sure you all know what they look like.
Thanks all. jB

I only call them dodgy because they are never announced to the public via POW or whatever, and they just get given to good customers. POW has some Gangster Rat A/P's in various colourways at the moment, but you can never tell if they were done at the time, or were an after thought.
They aren't really Artist PROOFS in the traditional sense of the word....

Barely Legal set For Sale (SOLD), by jB on Feb 21, 2010 19:05:00 GMT 1, Lo Key - I believe the first 10 prints or so of this series were signed that I am aware, with the addition of the Festival A/P that we saw on eBay not long ago. I am not real sure of the A/P story though.
Westley, The applause is different - Let me see if I can dig up pictures of them side by side. Or if anyone else would be so kind if they have them available on hand to show them....cough cough Ronhill, I know you have a hard drive full of random art pics

Barely Legal set For Sale (SOLD), by Guest on Feb 21, 2010 21:07:39 GMT 1, Sorry jB, thats one photo i cant lay my hands on at the moment. But Craig is correct that the contrast/colour on the modern muliples published print is different to that of the POW published version. Good luck with the sale, very keenly priced for whats on offer.

2006 actually. The AP story is Modern Multiples had 6 or 8 (I believe) signed sets of APs which they sold at the same time as the show (privately). The numbered prints that were sold in LA were numbered between 50-150 roughly with full sets of matching numbers selling out on the first "preview night", even though they were numbered out of 500. I think Trollies and Grannies were sold out by the official opening of the show.

They're dodgy because POW didn't announce them? Makes no sense. Edition houses almost never "announce" anything like that, but might tell you if you ask? And what exactly is a "traditional Artist Proof" in your mind? And how do you know all of the details behind the proofs which brought you to this determination?

Barely Legal set For Sale (SOLD), by bonesy on Feb 21, 2010 22:38:16 GMT 1, Thanks Bonesy - are you saying they sold 100 matching sets 'preview night'? then sold some additional trollies and grannies on opening night?
I made plans to fly in for the first night (Friday). 2 days before the opening they announced there was to be an inviation only night (Thurs), and I was a bit pissed as my flights were already booked. Celebs were at the invitation only night (Brad & Angelina's 1st appearence after being married (or something)) but they also ended up letting in the public towards the end of the night and had sets of 6 available for sale. By the time I arrived for the Fri noon opening they only had Morons, Sale Ends, Applause, and Festival avail for sale I think, it was a few years ago and it may have been Applause and Trollies sold out on Thurs (def Trollies). The prints werent actually avail for pick-up until Sunday, people were mad, and from what appeared to be on ebay in the following month (before people weree scared of being black listed for advertising print numbers) all the prints appeared to be numbered between 50-150.
100 sets were not sold preview night but they def sold there alotment of atleast one of the 6, so no longer had full sets avail. They were just putting checkmarks on paper at this point. I would think someone could easily (and really should have by now) contact Richard at Modern Multiples and just plain ask how many prints he made for the event, it was no where near the #500 which appeard on the prints.

Barely Legal set For Sale (SOLD), by Scraffer on Feb 21, 2010 23:09:45 GMT 1, Snaussages. The thing is that the Festival A/P's were printed well after the LA show (I believe they were printed by POW). An artists proof traditionally is something the Artist pprints first in order to check that the screens work etc. And that he likes the fineshed product...
I only call them dodgy because POW play their cards very close to their chest, trying not to reveal anything as regards A/P's. Noone knows of their existantce until 2 or 3 years after they were made as people have to "promise" not to sell them on.
They try to keep the A/P's out of the "public domain"...
(Btw, anyone confused, I'm talking about the A/P edition of 32 of Festival, of which one appeared on the bay last year with a full COA...
This is my opinion on them, although I may be wrong, and am happy to be corrected on this!

The sets that modern multiples had were PP's not AP's and richard at modern multiples is not to be trusted as a reference for these. Also my signed L.A. Applause is numbered well below #50 just so you know.

They were printed by POW recently and not 2 or 3 years ago, hence them being A.Ps as the edition has not been released by POW yet!
