T.WAT's stunning print, by Harveyn on Jan 3, 2009 22:57:27 GMT 1, The only value to showing it next to VLH is to highlight how dreadful t**ts effort is. As piss poor as his name is infantile.. Worth just about what it cost you though.

Yeah, I'm known for my restraint but this is just too awful to pass on and a prime example of the kind of derivative, cliched, cringe-worthy nonsense that is slowly strangling the life out of this 'scene'. I can only presume that those referring to it as 'stunning' must be either a) taking the piss or b) have extraordinarily low quality thresholds.
Still, 14 year old anarchists and anti-capitalists need to decorate their walls too so perhaps I shouldn't be too judgemental.

4 posts in 2 years - it's little wonder that you attract a certain criticism when one of them is a bile filled rant. To some extent its posts like this that are strangling the life out of this forum and making established members with genuine contributions migrate elsewhere.
You don't like it fine, nor do I. I agree with you in that it looks a little cliched. I'm sure that there's lots of 14 year old anti capitalists and anarchists out there who have a fine future ahead of them as right wing MP's and captains of industry.....

T.WAT's stunning print, by mikeo on Jan 4, 2009 9:52:36 GMT 1, You think that was a bile filled rant?
The reason this forum is stagnating and experienced members are leaving are down to far more than the rare criticism of crap art. It's most likely due to the banality of the majority of the threads. Amongst other things.
As for criticism of me for not accepting this type of art? I could really care less.

T.WAT's stunning print, by mikeo on Jan 4, 2009 10:51:18 GMT 1, So a comment that criticises poor art is 'stupid' and 'little' and the reason the forum is getting bad?
I'm not fighting any war here, imaginary or otherwise. All I've done is offer an opinion that a print is of low quality and then been blamed for the state of the forum. Which seems a tad b.inkered seeing as I've made only a handful of posts which implies that any problems with the forum were here prior to my posting.
By the way, pretty classy to call someone who've neither met nor spoken with a bastard.

T.WAT's stunning print, by eddiedangerous on Jan 4, 2009 13:30:12 GMT 1, the man gets up on the streets (unlike many) he's not just tied to the shoreditch area when he does this is his first print. in terms of physical quality the piece surpasses many in my collection and is finished to a very high standard. i can understand if you dont like the subject matter but why not be a little more constructive with your critisism of an artists first relese instead of simply slamming them. lets face it the image alone beats much of the imagery currently acailable on the pow website, this one may not be your cup of tea, but im sure there are much greater things to come from t.wat. the problem really is when a thankyou thread gets hijacked and the forum politics rolls out again and more and more people argue and eventually leave. cant we keep it constructive and not destructive? and remember one mans picasso is anothers teatray

T.WAT's stunning print, by mikeo on Jan 4, 2009 14:01:42 GMT 1, Why don't you enlighten me as to what's so good about the image then?
If all you can do to defend it is point out that the print quality is better than many in your collection and that it's better than a lot things from POW, neither of which I'd consider to be barometers of artistic worth, then I'd wager you're struggling yourself.
What does this image offer that we've not seen countless times before? Is there really a need for yet another anti-corporate themed print expressing the same tired old sentiments, from yet another sub-standard street artist with aspirations to make some cash selling his efforts?
Finally, sure, t**t may put work on the streets but that mere act of doing so doesn't validate it in any way.

T.WAT's stunning print, by bullet on Jan 4, 2009 14:21:48 GMT 1, not being funny, but (IMO) its just another attempt at doing exactly what everyone else is trying to do or failed at. Im all up for new artists coming through but unless their work is just as inspired or more than whats already out there its not going to work. for one (1) i would not have a piece on the wall with t.wat written on it, which is basically a clever way of saying t**t without getting in trouble. typical nathan barley stuff. and two (2) its yet another 'street artist' trying to cash in on something which is dying and its dying because this sort of stuff finds its way through. Leave it to the people that have been doing it for years now and move on to something new if you want to impress or get recognised.
I agree with the comments above about it being pretty juvenile as well, why tesco? its because its the flavour of the moment. if you know banksy has produced an image with a tesco bag in it within the last 12 months or more why try and do one yourself as all people will do is compare yours to that one. its basic things like that which makes this sort of stuff meaningless and tacky.

T.WAT's stunning print, by loucastel on Jan 4, 2009 15:17:08 GMT 1, I thought this was supposed to be a thank you thread for a nice gesture, I'm no fan of this artists work, but for a first attempt it's OK, yes it has Tesco carrier bags in it, but the idea is totally different to other works on the theme, in fact the message is quite clever if you did but think about it, which I doubt many have done, it seems like the only thing they see are the bags and bam ,lets slag it off, perhaps if it had been another cheap super hero print ,that would have been alright!!!

I'd love to hear how the image is clever.
Tescos being accused of being gangsters! Genius.
And, no, another superhero print would be just as desperate and just as open to derision because it's really not about the tesco bags with this one. It's just one more example of the total dearth of ideas and talent in the UK scene right now (with increasingly few notable exceptions) so to hear it heralded as being 'stunning' is just depressing.

It is clever in my opinion merely because it is what a lot of us common folk consider the corporation to be, so the artist has translated thought into print, which I thought was what this genre of art was to portray. For a first attemp it is to me ,OK, and I never said it was "stunning" but I guess to some folk it will be, so for their taste to be called into question just because you dont like it is pretty shamefull ,thankfully we dont all like the same thing! If you have read any of my other posts, you will see that I am in agrement with at least one of your points, being that majority of artist on here and in the main are dire, but to me that isnt a problem purely because they wont survive, but in the dross can be found one or two diamonds, so I personaly will put up with the dross. Would be inteested to hear what artists you consider to be worthy at the moment.

T.WAT's stunning print, by Poppy Sunshine on Jan 4, 2009 16:47:30 GMT 1, Just the idea of two of Britains craziest nutters walking round with tesco carrier bags makes me titter. Ergo it provokes a feeling which I like. Ergo I might like to look at it again or even want to own a copy myself to laugh at inanely ad infinitum. No originality, gold plating, 3d effects, overnight queues, chance to quadruple my money or deep thought required. ....I just like it and I can't be wrong coz that's just how I feel. Good luck you crazy t.wat. Everyone has to start somewhere. I bet if you'd known people would get revved up to the point where they might be considering fire bombing your house and peeling your kids and dipping them in salt you'd probably not have bothered. What a shame if a future brilliantly talented artist has been reading this and has now decided to knock it on the head rather than face a barrage of venomous criticism for just trying to brighten up peoples sad lives with a bit of a picture.

T.WAT's stunning print, by mikeo on Jan 4, 2009 17:05:43 GMT 1, See, what you consider to be clever, I consider to be a tiresome point which really does not need to be made again especially in another editioned print. We know tescos make a lot of money, we know they can be exploitative, blah, blah, blah. We also know a street artist will be along to sell us a print to reinforce any old oft-repeated message some time soon..
I don't consider to to be particularly shameful to call into question the tastes and opinions of others, especially on a public forum where many agendas are hidden (and I'm not accusing anyone here of having hidden agendas before you start).
Finally, my taste in artists is irrelevent to this particular debate but, suffice to say, these cheap, amateur playground politics cartoons have no place on my walls.

Finally, my taste in artists is irrelevent to this particular debate but, suffice to say, these cheap, amateur playground politics cartoons have no place on my walls.

T.WAT's stunning print, by loucastel on Jan 4, 2009 17:39:30 GMT 1, See, what you consider to be clever, I consider to be a tiresome point which really does not need to be made again especially in another editioned print. We know tescos make a lot of money, we know they can be exploitative, blah, blah, blah. We also know a street artist will be along to sell us a print to reinforce any old oft-repeated message some time soon.. But I thought that is what street art was all about, whether it be to make a political/commercial, ethical or any other point, it is an artist making what he see's as a statement, whether the same point has been made before by other artists is irelevant, I think mr t**t must know that he is not going to get rich of this image, think how many times other images have been used ,ie too many to mention, I very rarely comment on new artists work purely because it would not be flattering, this one I also would not have on my wall, but dont hate it, to me it is inoffensive, that is why I cant understand the depth of feeling you have for it, when there are so many others more worthy of your wrath.
And Hero, what's with the banal comment? if you have something to say, then say it!!!

T.WAT's stunning print, by Mr Percy on Jan 4, 2009 17:46:37 GMT 1, Mikeo...no argument with your points in fact I agree with several.
However for anyone else reading this please take the time to review T.wat's portfolio before judging him as an artist. It contains several different mediums, street displays and range from impressive stencils to funny sign adaptations/commentary pieces.

Often on forums (as with any media) you only see a snapshot of the individual posting rather than getting the whole picture.
