Battle to stop new Banksy being destroyed, by silvermyn on Mar 5, 2009 13:12:52 GMT 1, Street artist Banksy has created a new artwork on a building where two of his creations were jet-washed away by a council.
The stencil, in Gillett Square in Dalston, is to be painted over by Hackney council but a community organisation, Hackney Co-operative Developments, which owns the leasehold of the building, is set to take legal action to stop the council cleaning it off.
HCD executive director Adam Hart said: "I am shocked to hear of such an unpopular and unnecessary act of vandalism against a valuable work of art. Banksy is something of a folk hero."
The stencil shows a boy holding a stereo and a teddy bear.
Alan Laing, Hackney's Cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: "Our position is not to make a judgment call on whether graffiti is art or not, our task is to keep streets clean."

If the council doesnt buff it , it will be tagged anyway, store it on your computer and look at it as often as you like. Art on walls has NO COMMERCIAL VALUE

Quite a few Eine pieces along with Cyclops, Sweet Toof and Sickboy pieces as eddiedangerous mentioned along with generic tags. Residents had to say whether the piece in question was art or vandalism/offensive.
I think I have a pdf of it somewhere...will have a look
I was in Gilette Square last night visiting friends, the banksy piece is verging on being pathetic at the moment. There is a petition next to it pasted on the wall, along with candles and what not...someone needs to either buff that piece asap or get rid of all of the petition shit...it literally looked like a cheap Princess Diana memorial. Sickening...the candles were the icing on the cake.
I wish I had my camera with me at the time just to show you how laughable it’s become.

FFS If that 'shrine' was a legitmate attempt to 'save' this street piece then the worlds gone mad.
Dog it, Buff it but please please not candles & petitions. Save it for Abbey Rd and the like's.
