DFace - New York - 12th Sept - 10th Oct, by Grubster on Sept 16, 2009 22:18:00 GMT 1, For the record I did not bag 7 prints for myself as the gallery strictly enforced the 1 print per person policy. I did contact the Jonathan Levine Gallery before the show on Friday on behalf of certain forum members and tried to help them facilitate purchases of art work from the show but was unsuccessful in my efforts. The director of the show specifically told me that they were unable to honor my request and asked that those individuals that I tried to purchase the artwork on their behalf please contact the gallery directly via the phone or e-mail them and make their own arrangements. I have been contacted by some very happy individuals from this forum that thanked me for providing them with pertinent information that allowed them to buy art directly from the gallery without me being responsible for laying out the money on their behalf as I was prepared to do. Jonathan Levine took down the name and address of all individuals that purchased any of the 50 prints to avoid the prospect of flipping as well. Darcie and the entire staff at The Levine Gallery ran a great show and I nor the gallery did anything wrong and really resent the insinuation that I am a flipper, scammer, influence peddler, etc. The only reason I was even able to go to the preview was because a fellow forum member from London called the owner of the gallery and got me on the guest list. Pay it forward - Don't be a hater This is intriguing, as on the 14th September you said: I HAVE AN EXTRA PUNK QUEEN AVAILABLE - I purchased a Punk Queen on behalf of a fellow forum member who was able to get the print from an alternative source. With that said I already own 1 that is going on my wall and I certainly don't need 2. I have no interest in flipping the print for a quick financial gain so I am open to trades. Thanks - So not only did you have two but the person you bought the other one for was able to source one from elsewhere - so much for the one print per person philosophy.....[/quote Lets clear this up! I am the fellow forum member he helped out to try and get the print via telephone but the gallery said I had to have someone local pick it up and wait in line but could pay over the phone. I was not able to get in touch with WEAROLOGY before he went back the day after the private vviewing, letting him know that there was one wating for me, hence he picked up an extra one for me that day. So I was not able to get a print through the gallery but the extra one Wearology got for me in the 1st place is the one I'm getting.... NO extra prints and no gallery shenanigans going on here!!!!!

Iconic? Thats interesting. Iconic in what way? Iconic of what or for what?
The show I thought looked great but I can't get excited about this. Loads of people seem to like it though. Interested to hear you say something so strong about it?

Iconic in the way that it will (in my opinion, once again) come to be representative of the general underlying message of the artists work juxtaposed against an image which is so recognisable globally.
Maybe this doesn't 'work' just yet but time will tell I guess.

DFace - New York - 12th Sept - 10th Oct, by crazyarsemother on Sept 16, 2009 22:56:01 GMT 1, Thats really interesting. Because I just think that I have seen it before. But maybe that familarity is paramount to an 'iconic' image. Its so vontage in its appearance that I can't really see the point. I mean Warhol used the images of the now. But many artists now seem to be using the images of the 'then'. But why? I know it says Riot and D-face but the aesthetic comes from the coke bottles and the colours. Thanks for replying though. Its all interesting stuff.

I have virtually every print by D, I have an acrylic Pop Tart, a Pop tart collage, a green Pop Tart AP, a DSTQ canvas to name a few. I didn't manage to get one of these prints. However, if the print was $350 or thereabouts how does that equate to the swap deal you are after.

DFace - New York - 12th Sept - 10th Oct, by bullet on Sept 16, 2009 23:18:47 GMT 1, i dont really understand what the issue is, it is the same old story of the banksy print...
get banksy from POW, sell it for £1500 no one blinks an eyelid and no one expects to get it for cost.
get dface from a gallery, sell it for $500, everyone all of a sudden gives a crap and people expect it for cost.
what is the problem? Wearology is a stand up member of this place and silky would not have made him an assistant moderator if he did not think so, so give the guy a break. He has been very kind in getting bits and bobs for people here and there... i would like to see any of you guys do the same to be honest. Everyone can preach it but very few follow it up with anything, so unless anyone can prove otherwise i think wearology has done a very kind favour.
