An exhibition exploring urban art and featuring work by local, regional, national and international artists is set to open in Hartlepool next month.
Called 'In from the Outside', it can be seen at Hartlepool Art Gallery in Church Square from Saturday 7th September to Saturday 9th November and entry is free.
There will be a new interpretation of Lucian Freud's 'Head of a Woman' by New York stencil artist Logan Hicks.
Originally a screen printer, Logan's work explores the dynamics of the urban environment. He has gained prominence due to his ability to capture the sometimes mundane cycle of city life in a haunting yet refined way with his hand-sprayed stencils.
There will be an area of the exhibition which will be specially curated by the Tower Art Gallery in Newcastle and will feature contemporary graffiti.
There will also be two new pieces - as well as a number of prints - by Teesside-based freelance artist Stephen Irving, who specialises in murals, artwork and illustrations.
Most of his work uses a combination of mixed media including spray and acrylic and is strongly influenced by graffiti and street art as well as pop art and abstract images.
There will be a rich variety of work on loan by North East Urban Art - a network of artists from a variety of artistic backgrounds working together to promote the region's talent. The pieces on show will range from new work by Miss Dev to Oltad's 'I Love Parmos Me'.
In addition, there will by a number of works by North-East urban artist Karl Striker, who portrays both contemporary and traditional themes through the medium of the street environment.
There will also be examples of urban photography by Sam Wood and an artist who works under the name of 'The Eye of Silence', exploring a world which is sometimes long forgotten and is often inaccessible.
A host of other global urban artists will be featured in the exhibition, including prints by Eelus, Gaia, Conor Harrington, Eine, Prefab77, Remi Rough, Laser 3.14, Faile, Parra, Tom French and SheOne, all of which are on loan from North-East gallery Unit44.
The exhibition will also feature artist Bobzilla and it will include original prints of 'Virgin Mary' and 'Morons' by world-renowned artist Banksy.
Clare Irvine, Hartlepool Council's Arts and Events Manager, said: "This vibrant and fascinating exhibition is a 'first' for Hartlepool and we are very excited to be hosting it.
"Urban art embraces so many different perceptions and themes and dramatically challenges the viewer's usual perceptions of the urban environment around them."
