Hmmm I wouldn't say Banksy is a fool.

Ok I waited till I saw the film and sorry to say I retain my opinion that MBW is s**t. Nothing original or new at all and by the look of it minimal input by MBW himself. When sense prevails I'm sure you will be able to pick up prints very reasonably Freerange.

WTB MR BRAINWASH, by Ottomatik on Mar 1, 2010 14:06:55 GMT 1, And so it begins on the Banksy forum.... Just because some of you don't like MBW, there is no need to be dogmatic! I heart MBW. Legend(pink) is one of the best prints..ever! I can understand why some people don't like him, but why do you have to act as if I shouldn't like him. Who cares if he didn't have to "pay his dues"....if you could have instant success, you anti-Brainers would have no hesitation cashing those checks.

WTB MR BRAINWASH, by mattgold on Mar 1, 2010 16:54:53 GMT 1, Would you actually frame it up on your wall? The work is just so damn ugly, unoriginal and well I could go on. I think nex is right, to me it seems you've missed the entire point of the film......
Are you referring to one particular piece?
Personally, I don't see anything keeping a few of his prints off the wall... Don't be Cruel I can see on a few walls I know, Legend is rather universal, and Heart Splash would probably even get the ok from most wives/girlfriends.
Almost everything from ICONS would sit right with fans (Sanatra, Morrison, Hendrix)... and his "splashes" on known works (Mondriart, Polaroid, etc) are just as hangable as the originals I suppose.
Now, Im not going to say I want Larry King waring a Marilyn wig on MY wall (or any of the Marilyns' actually)... but like any artist, there's certain works that are best left in the portfolio - but plenty that can nudge in some wall space.

WTB MR BRAINWASH, by Sundowner on Mar 1, 2010 16:59:50 GMT 1, MBW is a brand (in the same way Hirst and Warhol are/were), but the difference is that he has absolutely no ounce of originality or any form of quality control process.
As Banksy says in ETTGS, MBW appears to have missed out the development part of his artistic career and the chance to develop and build ideas.
He is clearly obsessed with impressing Banksy and the marketing of the MBW brand (which are essentially ideas that are translated by his "factory" of workers), whilst forgetting about what actually makes good art.
"Life is Beautiful" was akin to "Life's Remote Control" - a chaotic fusion of ideas, colours and images with no single theme linking everything together. The "ICONS" show is more focused, but on the surface appears to be little more than poorly executed dayglo-Warhol style portraits, Photoshopped and presented in many different colourways.
MBW is a "phenomenon" for sure. Let's see just how long this "phenomenon" lasts.....

WTB MR BRAINWASH, by RBK on Mar 2, 2010 0:21:44 GMT 1, Freerange - you have no idea what you're even talking about.
The only street artist more famous in the states than Banksy may be Shepard Fairey.
Good luck getting a MBW print for your collection. Sure you're going to enjoy it hanging on your wall (or tucked away in a portfolio) in years to come.
