Four Lions UK premiere, by Replete on Mar 26, 2010 0:24:54 GMT 1, I was lucky enough to get to go to the UK premiere of Four Lions by Chris Morris tonight at the Museum Of Film and Photography in Bradford with Morris and 3 of the main cast in attendence doing a Q&A session after the showing.
I didn't build it up too much in my mind before as some of Morris' recent projects fell a bit flat for me but I came away massively suprised how good the film is. It's basically a buddy movie that's consistently laugh out loud funny with endlessly quotable lines coming thick and fast mixed with some touching and poignant scenes including a Jihadi Lion King bedtime story.
Morris gave an interesting talk about the depth of research that he did for the film by hanging out with many members of the muslim and radical community and it really shows in the film as the characters are simultaenously ridiculous yet believable and you grow to like and even care about their outcome.
Definately one of the funniest films I've seen in a long time and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good satire as Morris has created a beautifully directed and well observed comment on our murky modern times.
See you on Penguin Party, bagsy the red penguin

Four Lions UK premiere, by Replete on Mar 26, 2010 2:12:59 GMT 1, So true Fragile and he was very warm and personable to all people who came up to him and he, the actors and the film were massively well received by the audience (including many muslims and they even had a prayer room setup in the cinema for the evening prayer and the film was timed so it ended just before then) and I can't wait to see it again as although I really did wince and feel for some of the tragic moments in the film the overiding element I took from the film was the dysfunctional love they have between them.
Also the swearing in Urdu added a whole new level and I'm sure I missed a few great lines as they just came on like an onslaught at times.

Four Lions UK premiere, by discoduster on Mar 28, 2010 13:40:08 GMT 1, AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH
How did I miss this!
I remember this film in it's pre production stage when they were looking for donations.
I'd give anything to meet Chris Morris.

Four Lions UK premiere, by Replete on Apr 5, 2010 0:29:20 GMT 1, yeah i remember that too DD where if you donated ยฃ150 or so you'd get to be an extra. And yes all were free to walk up and meet Morris, the writers, producers and the lead actors who were all very welcoming. I shook their hands and congratulated them including Morris' but I refrained from any more dialogue as I feared I'd be entering fanboy territory plus there were plenty of other people wanting to congratulate them too for a job well done.

Nice one. Well jealous!
I certainly wouldn't have worried about being a fanboy talking to CM.

Four Lions UK premiere, by Fragile on May 6, 2010 23:41:06 GMT 1, Families who lost relatives in the London bomb attacks of 2005 are calling for cinemas not to screen Chris Morris' new terrorism-inspired comedy Four Lions. The film - which is released on Friday (May 7) - follows a group of bungling would-be suicide bombers as they attempt to bomb the London Marathon.
Grahame Russell, whose son was among the 52 killed on 7 July 2005, told BBC News that the filmmakers were "morally bankrupt".
Another, Graham Foulkes, who also lost his son in the bombings, said he and other relatives were appealing to cinemas not to show the film, explaining that though he accepted comedy played a part when dealing with such events, for his family - and others - it was "too soon".
Four Lions was created by Chris Morris, the comedian behind satires on news and media The Day Today and Brass Eye. He has described Four Lions as showing "the Dad's Army side to terrorism".
