3 LEAST FAVOURITE BANKSY PRINTS, by bert on Aug 7, 2009 13:12:16 GMT 1, Why don't people post a few reasons for their choices? Would be a bit more interesting than just listing 3 images.
I find it odd that Applause gets so many votes, it's probably in my top 3 Banksy images. Not just because of its scale and general aesthetic qualities, but the thoughts it provokes regarding war and the media are numerous and really are classic Banksy.

1 Morons - just too busy an image and too rude for my wall - the joke was all in the text - not in the image like so many others
2 Very Little Helps - all reasons above i work near the street piece and saw it when it went up - great on the street between two tescos - but not sure why on a print
3 Nola - mostly cos i missed it - but her eyes annoy me and again not as good as the New orleans piece - and is that rain in her umbrella or is it just raining?
thoughts for now - sure Nola would have made the wall and i would have learned to love it (maybe) - think this thread is great as the great taboo of debating the untouchable subject of maybe not loving every thing Mr B has done is broken......
and of course it is making me get picky when really i love it all.....

I am not so attracted to the cartoon style of the likes of grannies and morons etc. I don't mind colour trolleys but I think the B&W trolleys is a bit sparse - lots of blank paper. Applause looks like a photo montage which is why it is prob not on everyones fav list. Napalm, I like what he is saying (I think) but I have always found that image uncomfortable to look at.

Its huge, has a great meaning behind it, is very poignant and of the moment, in many ways similar to donuts, I have decided I now want one, but it took a lack of love to make that so, weird!

Just had friends round and was showing them a painting by Paul Christopher Flynn which we ( HII and I) bought last week (might be some of his work on gormleys.ie - can't be bothered looking for a link ) and then thought I'd show my guests my Stop and Search ( " you've heard of Banksy though?" - "mmmmmmmm ... no, can't say that I have...") too and for whatever reason, recent discussions on here have made me look at it differently. Couldn't stop looking at the thumb... and where has her arm ended up? And the message isn't completely obvious as a print. I'm not sure anymore. I'm having a crisis of confidence.

Reasons are pretty simple really - I just don't like the aesthetics in all 3 of these and any meaning I'm able to extrapolate is not sufficiently relevant (to me personally) to counter that - Morons for example, is an image that does very little for me visually, but I love it dearly for the humour involved and think that's what makes it classic Banksy. I think there are other prints with deeper/more interesting/more relevant (to me) meanings and others still which aesthetically make a far greater impact on me. I've always found MQ in particular to be exceptionally difficult on the eye - although I must admit, there was one posted this week in the GYAO thread which has, for the first time, had me thinking, "I could coexist with that on the wall." It's an excellent frame job imo and a perfect example of how the right framing really can/does transform a print.
PS...Yes I did change my mind, as Soup Can had forgotten for a second. I've never got the appeal of any of them, whether by Warhol, Obey, Banksy or anyone else. So just not for me I guess.

Im with HH on this one, every release people slag off a prints if they dont get it and praise the prints they do get trying to boost its seconday value.

3 LEAST FAVOURITE BANKSY PRINTS, by jellya on Aug 8, 2009 21:29:16 GMT 1, i reacon you are all becoming a bunch of cu**s ........who gives a f**k what your least 3 banksy are . i bet most of you dont have many of them anyway ..... and just jump on the bandwagon to make a quick buck anyway Im with HH on this one, every release people slag off a prints if they dont get it and praise the prints they do get trying to boost its seconday value. People saying f**k i hate colour trolleys, then oh i bagged a colour trolleys its the s**t, best print ever, works so much better than the black and white one. Its all about money and its all bulls**t.
I agree with your point that those who don't bag a particular print are often quite vocal about their disapproval of it afterwards. It happens *every* release. I think this accounts for many (not all) of the donut haters this week who, on the whole, didn't voice their disapproval whilst the lottery was running and when they still had the glimmer of hope of actually owning it.
