Lol, there was the old banksy rat on melrose but it has since been buffed. This one is a real treat! hope it last a good while, its great addition to an awful building!

Not true at all. There's lots of people who know of Banksy but he's nowhere nearly as popular here as he is in the UK. I'm a collector but keep running into folks who aren't collectors or student that know of Banksy. He's becoming more popular over here and that will continue. I'd put a couple extra zeros (if not 3 or 4) on your estimate of the number of people in the US who are familiar with Banksy.

Banksy in Los Angeles, by Wearology on Apr 12, 2010 12:47:10 GMT 1, I was being a bit dramatic in order to provoke some discussion about the popularity of Banksy in the U.S. If there is over 350,000,000 people in the U.S legally and another 10,000,000 - 20,000,000 illegally or unaccounted for than I will readjust my estimate and say that there is probably less than 500,000 people who have ever heard of Banksy in the U.S. - Once again just my opinion but I will do some research and see how many books he has sold and how the movies does and report back. But considering the movie did less than a million dollars in the U.K I got a feeling my report will surprise many of you.

Out of all my friends only 2 of us went to see the movie, yet I know hundreds that have heard of Banksy.
At the end of the day he is more popular than I would like and thats all I know.

The us is just a small place compared with the uk - i know (I jest;) ).
I think those here who are surprised at your discovery will also be those who perhaps don't know how nice a Hershey bar is... (you folks in the US ever heard of Wispa ?  )
I for one - won't be ( surprised) - it's small beer ... but alas a GJ situation... I'd exclaim "here here" if it's a foray into a water which is keen for more...

He has not broken into the pop culture of the US like he has in Europe. Smaller cities (like Seattle, Denver etc..) and below he is still relatively unknown except within certain "Art circles"
