So i guess this will be another piece that someone tries to make a killing on.
I doo think Banksy has been very sharp on some of his more recent street work to try and minimise this...
While the piece is 99.9% certain to have been done by Banksy can anyone (apart from those in his inner circle) actually prove it?
It's not on his website, and although without it being published on his site, and without hope of a PC COA it'll never be verified and so can't ever be sold as a definite Banksy.
The same applied with the highway man on the A4. Every journey into London I pass the new boards which have replaced where the piece has been ripped down from and it's a shame not to have the street art there but again it has never been confirmed as a Banksy and so will always struggle selling and so may well languish in a warehouse somewhere forever.
Which makes it even more of a shame that they've been ripped down.

Banksy in Los Angeles, by wimpy on Apr 14, 2010 11:31:20 GMT 1, I had no idea that the pillar was only wood! It was a nice spot to do a piece, but Banksy must have realised if it was just on wood it would get taken pretty fast
You can see the lines from each section of the material that post was made out of. I don't know if it was textured board, sprayed stucco on wood, or what... but just looking at the bottom alone (before removal) shows it was hollow.
And he must have known, yes. It was obviously more about the sign there and using that than thinking about it being stolen.
It'd be a pretty funny joke that is part of his "outside sales" plan was to steal his own stuff once enough pics were taken in order to fire more people up and gain interest.

Banksy in Los Angeles, by curiousgeorge on Apr 14, 2010 13:15:25 GMT 1, What was the purpose of the 'box' anyway? Looks to be against a solid 6" wall. I think, though probably wrong, that the box was put up for just to be hit and promptly removed once enough pictures were taken??

Could be some have down pipes or something in, so the rest are just there for show to balance things up.

PEGGY'S WET HERSELF AT GREAT HUMOUR. TREET OR MAYBE BANKSY SHOULD HAVE PAINTED ON A BRICK WALL LIKE THE ONES IN JAMAICA & IKEA CROYDON? OR MAYBE YOU'RE RIGHT & BANKSY IS A MUG AND HE SHOULD CONSIDER WHERE TO PAINT HIS WORK SO IT CAN STAY THERE FOREVER, ON THE STREET, LIKE ALL STREET ART IS MEANT TO BE.

Banksy in Los Angeles, by walshy on Apr 14, 2010 14:02:19 GMT 1, If someone did steal this, what could they possibly do with it except hang it in their home? I guess that would be sick, but is there any way they can sell this without legal repurcussions? Would a collector buy this piece for big money, knowing that it was illegally removed? That is, if that's the case.
Who says they didn't get permission from the owner ? I hear a rumor that somewhere down the line the owner/building is linked to koons hence the use of the poodle
(that could be rubbish though)
