Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by adrscib on Aug 4, 2007 19:47:58 GMT 1, johans ... financial is word i like... as i am a numbers persons... so yes you are right... maybe its my fault... by i want to clarify something...
apart from the loads of prints i own two canvases.... which i have bought before i have sold my reaper... and i will explin the reason of my purchsae of these "doodle" paintings....
i am a huge fan of JMB (reference in previous thread)... Jean Michel Basquait is my idol... but nothing is affordable as you know... he was the first real graffiti street vandal turned artist...
i like dan's archive works which resemble that style... which is in fact the very reason i started collecting dans work...
visit www.scibby.net .... they are there...
i also admit some of the works are not to my likings....
but for e.g. his latest print... the wow union with flag is really amazing piece... reminds me of Johns Jaspers
so just like adam neate is the modern picasso / bacon i believe Dan can be the modern basquait / johns
obviously every artist has his own style...
so basically you were just questioning my artistic intellect and i do not happen to be dumb.... i have been studying (as a pastime) art for the past 2 years and have visited quite a number of modern art galleries in madrid, florence, london....
as for his prints...... i say the quality is very good (in terms of value for money).... and was mostly impressed with the disney horror / divine relevations.... the others are aesthetically detailed ... you either like or not...
but for me ikon is one of the best.... the picture may not be importnat per se, but it signifies that the artist can really paint... as the print is based on an actual original...
Get one of the newcomer artist to do that....!!! Most of them dont know better than stenciling....
Hope this explains well.
P.S. His "world's gone mental" is the best explanation of the crazy business that is happening now on ebay.

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by johnas on Aug 4, 2007 20:07:09 GMT 1, dude, i was never questioning your art intellect..... i was trying to get you to talk art not money.
If you believe in Baldwin for his artistic merits then fantastic.... I would much rather you try to get me to buy your (waaaaaay over priced) ebay auction by convincing me of dan's artistic skills than trying to sell it to me based on it's (alleged) potential earnings. I'm not into art for money, i'm into aesthetics.... and for that reason, I don't buy dan's work. It doesn't float my boat artistically, but hey ho, horses for courses and all that!
it's great that you are passionate about Dan as an artist and that you have a belief in him... try focussing your posts on that and not the ยฃยฃยฃยฃ is all I'm saying

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by adrscib on Aug 4, 2007 20:09:32 GMT 1, finally ... i hope you dont accuse me of being a flipper...
CBL... i am not trying to sell... i am trying to pass a message...
dont you realise we are all surronded by flippers including our man Banksy... dont you read the lines between the auctions.... yes... when provenance is Laz... it means Banksy and Laz are getting the last laugh... sharing 50-50 or what is their agreed percentage.... so that is acceptable but for ppl to flip art on ebay is not...
same goes with micallef.. Laz flipped an auction on Sothebys and managed to do well which consquently created a panic rush to buy his prints for a ridicolous price of ยฃ4.7k!
Dont you realise its all marketing... lazaridies was selling processed chicken a few years ago... he bluffs that he never studied what art is... but through his marketing skills he managed to sell art without knowing what art is!!!
Even galleries buy art for the sake of earning revenues from admission tickets... and what about hirst... he invested ยฃ10m to make a diamond skull which he decided to value for ยฃ50m a very high tag price for the sake of being the most expenisve... hitting the news and selling his expensive but more affordable prints.... its marketing... he even buys art for himself for investment purposes....
so goes for saatchi... he buys to display at a charge and resell at a profit...
the list is endless....

So art dealers deal in art, and make money from it, is that what you're saying?
& you're puting art on ebay, not to sell but to make people aware how good DB is.

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by tomhills1 on Aug 4, 2007 20:51:18 GMT 1, a quick update from my end. adrian, my mention of GR was only of it's sale and how/where you chose to invest that money. my point was more about whose eggs you have in your basket and if you still believe this path is paved with gold. there was and is, no mention of that whole saga so please, don't get the wrong end of the stick.
johnas, thank you for putting in to polite and straight/no-nonsense terms the kind of questions adrian should be answering, rather than the kind of idle saturday night chit-chat i offered up. maybe this thread will offer up some kind of opinionted, yet justified, debate. with qualification.
adrian is back up to +1 despite his claims of always being negged, maybe the dan baldwin supporters who clearly agree with the malteser geezer, should stand together with him and voice their opinion too. not as easy as sitting silent hitting the plus 1's though, can't wait.

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by dgb133 on Aug 4, 2007 21:07:44 GMT 1,
Well I don't know about his intentions but to be honest I have used ebay as a tool to find out about other artists. And as a tool to promote artists I love too. Also the automatically generated cross reference links by ebay are an interesting tool to see what other like minded people are searching for.
To be honest I have sometimes sold things on ebay as a package deal including say something from a big name artist and something from a lesser known. I try not to be just another annoying keyword spammer and it has been successful occasionally. And even f it doesn't sell I at least exposed probably a couple hundred people to said artist.
As far as Dan Baldwin goes I like his work much much better than Beejoir and Mantis. Much more natural style. He's obviously influenced by certain artist but is also not so derivative of anyone in particular imo. I think too that Baldwin has the potential for much broader mass appeal than either of those guys. I don't expect him to be as big as Banksy or Micallef but who knows. And I'm fully aware that his work may become worthless too. But if you're not made of money like myself - 300 for a potentially worthless print is much better than 1-2k for a potentially worthless print. It's unfortunate when art is talked about in terms of money so much but at the same time unless money is absolutely no object to you, it is a lot of money to spend without considering the consequences of it's value --- even if it is just speculation.

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by adrscib on Aug 4, 2007 23:45:45 GMT 1, This is the first civilized Dan Baldwin discussion we have had for ages... i am happy that we can talk without hesitation here....it is usually not my intention to start a controversary and both johnas and lw i appreciate your thoughts... especiially LW i like the fact that at least you are a balanced guy not like some who were all out to criticize me ..... and johnas i did not mean to teach you about marketing.... but if you really think deeply you will realize hwo banksy is one big flipper (selling at prints below cost to create a profit opportunity for his fellas to raise his image and feel good factor and make money from sothebys).... i do not criticize him... after all he has to make a living... just like andy warhol did... and most probably he is also on unemployed social security benefits as he doesnt really need to work - so the government sponsors him :-)
i appreciate the + points... it is very rare for the maltese geezer to get one :-)
I agree pretty much with dgb133 post... and i do believe time will prove him right... i mean Baldwin might never take off but will not go down any more.... he has so much experience and as long as he keeps painitng he will stay in the limelight...
the beejoir and mantis prints are hype driven... the beejoirs are already falling... from a high of 900 back to 675! in just 3 days!
i do wish him (Beejoir) well as i believe he is a good young lad but again he has no long term expeirence and unfortunately most of his prints were bought by flippers in search of the next "banksy"....
unlike dan baldwins prints which are really being collected by true fans (which will make them more reluctant to sell) ... just as happened with micallef... (which is why it drove up his prices)... as very few ppl r willing to sell...
i see a similar feat in adam neates work... i am very much impressed by his work... i really wish i could get a piece but again... the show was packed with ppl who bought for a quick profit.... you can clearly see their names on ebay.... so i dont believe he has a long term profit viability ... and will go down as flippers who dont manage to sell will reduce the price down... but again as long as there is demand, supply will be fulfilled... its the normal economic laws we have read in school.
I would appreciate more Dan Baldwin fans to come out and talk... i know there are many out there but are afraid to be disrepected ... but so far this thread has turned to be a very civilized discussion with +++ throughout... and i do believe we can continue like that.
Have a good evening Dan Baldwin for King ;-)

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by rillo on Aug 5, 2007 1:46:39 GMT 1, Ok guys you know i am the most loyal dan baldwin supporter and you dont like me as i do everything to promote him but his last print is soon sold out and good sources tells me that artrepublic will soon stop ebay auctions of his prints as they are nearly finished! I know that now you are all for Beejoir Mantis and Adam Neate (which i also like to own but cannot afford) but you should consider grabbing a print or two... say the divine relevations and politics horror are the best in my opinion....it is the best to buy some of his beautiful giclee prints at a ridicolous price! Have you already forgotten that Micallef and Baldwin exhibited together 3/4 times in the past 2 years? Who says they wont exhibit again in the future? They are good friends I presume... And that there were some Baldwins exhibited at Lazs too... and have you forgotten his sell out shows this year? Dont you remember how long it took for micallef to sell his prints ... do you want to wait till they dry up and then be ready to pay ridicilous sums as you are paying on some prints on the bay? following my "much talked about and laughed at ebay auctions" i have also noticed some ebay activity in the past two weeks were over 15 prints were sold... meaning someone is actually watching and buying! Regards Adrian
Too many eggs in one basket ascrib?

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by corblimeylimey on Aug 8, 2007 21:38:46 GMT 1, Beejoir and Mantis prints are not hype driven, of course the first print or two of any popular release go for the highest amount before they find their natural level. They've both been around for a reasonable time and the growth for both has been steady and gradual for around threee quarters of a year, with a extra boost for both of them recently due to the Found show. As opposed to the massive hype of Dan Baldwin which happened earlier this year and has fizzled out already, I'm very sceptical about what you write adrscib because you seem to be frantically trying to reignite Dan Baldwin mania so you can get top dollar for your DB sales, something you can't accuse me of because I'm not selling my Mantis prints or my Beejoir print.
I've just looked on ebay and noticed you didn't get ยฃ5000 for your 2 prints, not really surprising when another seller has repeatedly tried selling the same for a buy it now price of ยฃ300 each, with no takers even at that price.

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by adrscib on Aug 8, 2007 21:51:29 GMT 1, Hold your horses my friend, i bought some prints for myself and some extra to resell finance my canvases thats all. I am not a rich person so i wont move the market with my purchases!
I have never accused anyone - its all up to everyones choice to do whatever he likes with his art. I am not going to reignite Dan, at least not in this board as apparently most of the ppl here dont like him, so whats the point of publicizing him here? He needs real fans after all, as unfortunately (not referring to you CBL) this board has turned into a flipping contest... first Micallef, then Beejoir and Mantis, and now Adam Neate.... the point is if Dan Baldwin gets in this flippin contest he will lose overall in the long term, as ppl will buy out his prints quickly for the sake of earning a profit... and his price will not be sustainable in the long run and will harm his respectable value.
So I'm happy to wait another 6months to 1 year or more for his future shows which will get new real fans who will buy for art rather than for investment.
Still it is in my interest to inform the board members of the opportunity of prints at very realistic prices (for those who like his work)...
best Adrian

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by dgb133 on Aug 9, 2007 0:07:06 GMT 1, while ardscribs pro-Baldwin posts are a bit suspicious as he's also appearing as though he will profit if Baldwon's prices take off again -which is a caveat he should mention (and maybe he did?)- but he at least seems genuine in his regards for the artists, so be it. I think most people can read through the lines and make there own judgement about him, Baldwin and the market.
As for Baldwin's prints not selling now - who knows what wll be going on 12 months from now - ...I remember there being a bunch of Micallefs at Laz for a long time. Seemed almost overnight they disappeared and Lazinc mentioned they were "inundated" with requests for prints all at once. Things can change overnight with the right buzz. But as of now its all guesswork. Baldwin does though have a better resumรฉ than beej or mant. But that could change. (Personally I doubt it will change though) As for Beejor and Mantis not being hype diven... Well that's opinion. Doesn't really matter how long they've been around for, whatever happened they received the right amount of hype at the right time, that coincidentally occured just after Banksy's prices went completely off the charts. In my opinion people didn't want to be left behind again, had a warped perspective on what rational print prices should be thanks to Banksy and latched on to whatever they thought was going to be the next hot thing. Whether they can maintain these prices and momentum only time will tell. They might. But I'm not betting on it either way. Although if I had to bet on it, I'd bet down...

That maybe true but the Beejoir pieces do deliver when you see them. i maybe the only one but i kept my SBFO and it will on the wall next week.
Sorry to say that Dan's work does nothing for me as i prefer the more street art type thing and i dont see Dan's work on the street.
Beejoir has been so Hype driven. At least SBFO was. That maybe true but the Beejoir pieces do deliver when you see them. i maybe the only one but i kept my SBFO and it will on the wall next week. i didnt sell mine either. the edition of 125 did get flipped to high heaven, but that because everyone saw what the editions of 40 were selling for. It is interesting to note that only 2 of the original edition of 40 have been flipped, i would say that is very low considering people know they can get ยฃ1500 for them
Apart from the unsigned LV and the more common SBFO, there really isnt much beejoir stuff on the bay. I would definatly agree that there was a hell of alot of hype with beejoir as there was with dan baldwin, but i dont see people bailing out with their beejoir stuff yet.
All that happened with baldwin was he got hyped up a tonne, Lots of people bought to flip, the prices on ebay were booming, ยฃ300 prints selling for ยฃ1000, then the prices started to dip and the flippers panicked and everyone sold, the prices crashed which gives off a kind of 'anti-hype' for want of a better phrase, people think its not worth buying cos its worth less than cost price. But Dans prints are truly special. Im not really a fan of his work but no one can deny that Harwood King make great looking prints. Dan still has pulling power, lets wait to see what his next show brings. As long as he keeps evolving and does exiting work his fanbase will grow.

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by adrscib on Aug 12, 2007 8:52:22 GMT 1, i have been impressed with your "not controversial analysis" of dan baldwin, considereing that i have started the thread originally.....
i dont recall prints ยฃ300 prints selling for ยฃ1k tho..
i am also happy that we have a peace or call it a truce :-)
considering that you are now "pumping" or praising dan baldwin, so you see that your worst enemy can become your best friend :-)

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by sjh on Aug 12, 2007 12:26:37 GMT 1, I have a Divine Revelation 1 (large size) and as a big Baldwin fan I would recommend anyone who fancies the smaller versions to try tog get to see the large one as the print size and quality is awesome. Although looks like Art Rpublic have sold out now.

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by adrscib on Aug 12, 2007 13:07:50 GMT 1, mcnuts.. funny grrr...... :-)
barksey1... here you go... harwoodking.com/ its the only place you can still get prints at cost .... but they are running out fast too....
then on hipartgallery you can find under artist charles dada a photo of his skull from his studio.... www.hipartgallery.com/artists/CharlesDada/index.asp
but the Dan Baldwin signed version is sold out...
then there are plenty of sites you can find his work but its more expensive so you should get from harwoodking as once they sell out you will have few options from where to buy "cheap"

Dan Baldwin ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Art For Sale, by physioo on Aug 14, 2007 17:51:02 GMT 1, Hello everyone,
I have been following this board for the past few months and have been impressed by some posts.
I have researched and studied art for a few years, and am amazed by some of the amazing talent that has been coming out.
My favourites artists are Dan Baldwin and Banksy - 2 different artisits, one a foetus, the other a grown man.
I have invested whole heartedly in Dan'swork, I believe his art is amazing, and although people might give me shit by saying this, I believe that in a few years, he will surpass Banksy.
Having said this, Banksy work is amazing, and recently I have bought the sepia, I believe his prices will double in a few years than they are currently. As ADRSCIB has said, Marketing plays a huge role as in every other business.
Coming back to Baldwin's work, the artist is making leaps and bounds. He will be showing some of his work in December, and the new Apocalypse seems to getting amazing reviews. It doeslook awesome, and I am sure we will be seeing it for sale at double or triple the price that it was sold at. This might be the turning point for Baldwin's work.
I own the Tryptich too, aplus some other prints, and I believe that the prices will triple in a few years. Keeping this in mind, I also believe that his art is one to put on walls, not one to see as an investment, as his colours are impressive, and truly mouth-watering.
Take care y'all looking forward for more discussion here and no negative marks haaa
