I have researched and studied art for a few years, and am amazed by some of the amazing talent that has been coming out. My favourites artists are Dan Baldwin and Banksy - 2 different artisits, one a foetus, the other a grown man. I have invested whole heartedly in Dan'swork, I believe his art is amazing, and although people might give me s**t by saying this, I believe that in a few years, he will surpass Banksy. Having said this, Banksy work is amazing, and recently I have bought the sepia, I believe his prices will double in a few years than they are currently. As ADRSCIB has said, Marketing plays a huge role as in every other business. Coming back to Baldwin's work, the artist is making leaps and bounds. He will be showing some of his work in December, and the new Apocalypse seems to getting amazing reviews. It doeslook awesome, and I am sure we will be seeing it for sale at double or triple the price that it was sold at. This might be the turning point for Baldwin's work. I own the Tryptich too, aplus some other prints, and I believe that the prices will triple in a few years. Keeping this in mind, I also believe that his art is one to put on walls, not one to see as an investment, as his colours are impressive, and truly mouth-watering. Yes, I buy art both to place on a wall and also an investment, it would be stupid to spend 6000$ on a piece of art, to become worthless in a year. I am sure you guys bought a house one day, seeing it as an investment. So please, before you all start blabbering your BS, do spare me from wasting your time to read unnecessary posts (Aboujaparov or whatever that name is - I am referring to you here).
I am not trying to hype anyone up here, neither Baldwin nor Banksy, I just live and enjoy the art as I believe they should be, if you have any problems, just rethink ur future...

IMO Banksy is the founder of the movement we collect today (Street/ Urban art, whatever you want to call it) You could argue and say it was started by the likes of Blek etc but its clearly Banksy.
Ive also studied Art, love art and spend my life walking around galleries, not just street art galleries but the main ones like, National portrait, Royal Academy, Tate - you get the picture.

it irritates me seeing people banging on about 'investment potential of baldwin' ignoring the fact the majority of his output is limp at best..
if you like it, great buy it, put it on your wall and look at it. just dont keep going on about its 'potential growth'

Why buy from the bay when you can go direct to Harwoods for the same money. I suppose you dont get a free Banksy poster, photo, magnet from Harwoods with your print.

as it happens i think it has been one of the most entertaining threads i have read.
i really love baldwins work and am interested to read some of the threads where his work was so called 'hyped'. there must have been alot of forum members who saw something in dan's work. i am interested to find out what/who started this buzz around dans work.
can anyone point me in the direction of some of these threads. thanks.

obviously i am still young and cannot know how the vibe was at that time.... but as i read, history is repeating itself...
I like Baldwin.. but have never disclosed he will be better than Banksy... I bet that if you sum up all the artists together e.g. Baldiwn, micallefs and other lesser know artists they can never grow as big as banksy .... the demand for banksies will remain always higher .... as his fan base is worldwide...

Funny how some people take banksy for granted these days. Adscrib is correct in that you add up all the "other" artists in this scene and they'll never be as popular as Banksy. BANKSY IS A CULTURAL PHENOMENON WHOSE POPULARITY IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE IS A MEDIA DARLING AND HAPPENS TO BE AN ARTIST.
The other big names in this scene such as micallef/neate have a niche following. This niche being some hardcore Banksy fans. In fact I bet this board has a lot to do with the current Micallef valuation.
