BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by Wearology on Apr 17, 2010 12:46:21 GMT 1, I loved the movie and consider myself a Banksyhead - my wife loved the movie and she definitely is not a head - the consensus was that this movie was a fictional depiction of the underworld street scene -
1. at times there were more than 1 camera angle on the shot
2. thiery had some very rapid weight gains and losses
3. the story in Disney about security not checking his sock - the week after 9/11 was completely silly
4. MBW needed a lot of money to buy tapes , equipment , the gallery show etc. and a vintage clothing store in LA is not going to fund that.

Wow am i the only person who did not like this movie. The first half was decent with some great footage but once the film started featuring "Mr. Brainwash" it made me feel sick. Maybe its just me but just because you are a nice and likable person (Which he generally seems to be) that does not make you a talented artist. Watching the process of how he makes his "Art" was just horrible (did no one else feel sick by the fact that he pays sculptors day rates to make pieces and thens sells them for 30 thousand!) and showed the process of someone truly exploiting the street art scene for there own financial gain. This movie did nothing but affirm my belief that Mr Brainwash should stick to filming (which he is very good at).
Banksy seems to have a great sense of humor and just an all around cool dude and saves the movie with his commentary (would have been nice to see more footage of him working instead of MBW preparing for his LA show)
Overall I thought the first half was great, the second half was horrible. The next time I watch it Ill stop watching once the transformation to MBW begins.

About Mr Brainwash - let's face it many street artist use other peoples imagery so that is not new many artist have a staff of helpers the difference is that he made a lot of money and in my opinion has no talent - someone in the theater screamed fuck you at the screen must have been an artist who doesn't sell well - the problem is not mbw the problem are people that pay 25k for a piece without having ever seen any of his pieces - it was fun to see how he pulled the prices out of his *** - there are plenty of artist that I don't like and think have no talent but I don't get angry at them for making art I just don't buy it or go to further shows ... also LA was the perfect setting for this rich people without any personality that follow any hype (not all of them of course)
