Banksy Film - Lambeth Palace Cinema - Leake Street, by speebe on Feb 28, 2010 15:51:09 GMT 1, im eager to hear about the POW screening last night, anyone go?
Last night was fairly orderly and well organised, with a small number of unclaimed seats... unless they were vacant due to the sofas, which didn't appear to be assigned to anyone... ? Although I could be proved wrong?
The Film and pre-feature ads got a lot of laughs, and the audience were very attentive throughout. Allin, it was quite an insightful piece, although this film obviosly fails to document 'street art' (thanks to Thierry), but certainly does entertain (thanks to Thierry). I'm sure others will want to follow this up with a film that fulfils the original objectives of the brief...?
I'm glad I managed to see it in the context of Leake Street, although I'm sure those that see it on the official release will be just as pleased.
There was more tension outside where some painting was taking place and some youths were getting a little vocal with a graff writer who was doing his best to try a school the young scamps. Which does illustrate aspects of what was presented in the film... Passion and Balls.

Brilliant evening! Mr Brainwash is crazy or very clever or maybe both.
The sofa's were reserved for Guests.

Advert for mbw? Did you think so? I felt some sympathy for him, but I didnt think the film promoted his art at all.

Banksy Film - Lambeth Palace Cinema - Leake Street, by alexnh123 on Feb 28, 2010 20:34:02 GMT 1, i think Banksy needed (or rather had no choice but) to put this 'film' out. My overall reaction to the film after seeing it and considering it is this; He allowed himself to be filmed at a point when he wasn't convinced that he would see the success that he's since seen; he therefore needed to be in control of how those tapes made their way into the public eye. I believe that there was some sort of trade off, by way of all the relevant tapes for some money, as well as the direction advised by Banksy. I'm not personally convinced that Thierry did fund his show purely on the re-mortgage of his house etc; i do think that some encouragement, 'how to go about it step by step', and money came from Banksy, i just don't think Banksy anticipated how carried away he'd get. I think the disappointment that comes from this 'film', to second what Speebe says above; is that, although entertaining in it's own right; this isn't what we expected and probably really, if we're honest; wanted to see. i think Banksy had to be sure to clarify where he stands on his associations, involvement, opinions, and endorsement of MBW; in order to set the record straight, clear the air and wrap that up ahead of ensuring that he never gets himself into a compromising situation like that again! I am convinced (not to mention hopeful) that there will indeed be a follow up film/documentary inspired in part by the success of this new medium, as well as a cleaner slate from which to answer to his brief only. In short there will be no obligation to ensure someone else gets a good trade off in return for their silence. Banksy part 2 will be the new standard to which Banksy unveils his new project in his newest of mediums. I don’t feel he had full control of this one and I don’t feel he was 100% ready. He’s learnt the ropes now, he’s toyed with a new level of publicity and commerciality and the next thing we see from him will be just as big (if not bigger) and much slicker, brought on by his newly acquired confidence in these new arenas. (Happy to be slated if I’m wrong, or talking sh*t)!!

Thought the film was very entertaining and very cleverly done. A documentary about the street art scene would only appeal to a very limited crowd. I think this film stands on its own and will appeal to a much wider audience. It seems to have received a very favourable reaction from critics. Its a mark of the man that he can turn a potential disaster into something rather wonderful.

Banksy Film - Lambeth Palace Cinema - Leake Street, by stenev on Mar 1, 2010 1:07:03 GMT 1, Just got back after seeing the film and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do get the impression that all was not exactly as portrayed and agree with Alex that there was probably a deal done to allow Banksy to regain control of the tapes.
I loved the setting and the atmosphere that the 'Lambeth Palace Theatre' created and am really happy I managed to see it there. It was even worth the train journey full of drunk football fans on the way home!
I would love to see more of the old footage of shep, invader etc and hope more of it surfaces in the future.
All in all, a great day.
