1. The higher Htz the better! try and get 600Htz minimum.
2. Make sure its "Full HD 1080p" and not just "HD Ready".
3. Avoid the cheap makes

IMO, the new LCD's are really nice, and look better depending on your lighting conditions. If you go with LCD, 120hz should be your minimum (but really only gets effected when watching Blu-Ray discs.
Samsungs have some great LCD;s.

Having had to buy one recently, I spent a while in Harrods choosing a make and then went and bought it somewhere cheaper.
I can recommend a Samsung LCD and if you go to Richer Sounds, you'll be able to get a 32 or 37 inch and still have a nice amount of change from your ยฃ600 budget.
Adam.

OFF topic need help buying a TV, by stenev on Apr 28, 2010 18:47:03 GMT 1, Sadly Pioneer stopped production last year and are no longer in the TV business.
I have to agree that in terms of value for money the Samsung's are hard to beat. Don't pay too much attention to the Hz specifications as manufacturers started to use those more as marketing techniques than product improvements (imo). I always turned off the 100Hz options on last years Samsung's as it was awful and resulted in visual judder. It was the only thing I could fault on their screens!
If you have the space then I'd probably go for a 40" as you can happily get one for around ยฃ500. Take a look at the LE40B550 and as AdamK says, the prices at richer sounds are very hard to beat. I get trade prices for AV gear and even this is more expensive than Richer Sounds!

It was rated Best TV under ยฃ1000 in a recent What Hi Fi Supertest - www.whathifi.com/Review/Samsung-LE40B550/
They also do a 37inch version (LE37B550), which reviewed equally well.
Generally speaking, there are some great TV deals around at the moment, with a lot of manufacturers about to launch their 3D sets and pushing their existing normal stock through.

OFF topic need help buying a TV, by HRE on Apr 28, 2010 20:11:31 GMT 1, Thanks for all your help Just come back from John lewis to check out TV and tech spec.
they recommended me these. Whats your take on these.
Sony 32, freeview HD built in unlike any others on offer. 100HZ ยฃ699, ยฃ50 trade in for any old tv so ยฃ650 www.johnlewis.com/230925667/Product.aspx
Panasonic 32 free view 100HZ (for some reason not on john lewis website) ยฃ499 www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-L32G10B-32-inch-Widescreen-Freesat/dp/B00268AHIO
finally
Samsung 32" frew view built in 50Hz ยฃ449 www.johnlewis.com/230907075/Product.aspx
The prices on all the TV jump quite considerable when you get the better Hz refresh rate
I think Richer sounds is a good bet, going to go to Kingston this weekend and check it out i reck.

OFF topic need help buying a TV, by Strange Al on Apr 28, 2010 20:57:03 GMT 1, Can't say I'm familiar with any of the above sets.
To get the best from your 1080p HD TV you definitely want a HD source (particularly, with the World Cup coming up). Whether I'd pay extra for a TV with a built in Freeview HD or Freesat receiver really depends on a number of other factors. For example, if you are going to subscribe to Sky HD, Virgin HD or want a PVR then I probably wouldn't bother spending the extra cash. You can pick up a better set without a built in Freeview HD or Freesat receiver and spend the difference (perhaps a little more) on a separate HD source.
As an aside, the Freeview HD signal is apparently currently not as good as the Freesat HD, Sky HD or Virgin HD services.

OFF topic need help buying a TV, by Coach on Apr 28, 2010 21:11:16 GMT 1, When you decide on make - try looking at pricerunner.com (or might be .co.uk). Price comparison site - lots of retailers that dont have expensive showrooms, so prices are pretty good. Pretty easy to chose a retailer with lots of good feedback too. c
