Signed or not signed, by nacional on May 3, 2010 17:34:46 GMT 1, A question: if a work by Banksy (a stencil) has PC COA but is not signed does this make the work hugely less desirable. In my quest for originals I have seen that the signature in many cases seems to take a back seat to the PC COA. Even the medium for Banksy stencils does not seem to matter much: a stencil on cardboard or a canvas or a foam board or a hardboard or a sheet of metal all seem to be priced the same. This seems quite unusual for usual market forces for an artist's work. Or am I hugely wrong??

That's a great question - I'd say with regards to original works, a signature isn't as important, as many of the pieces have a'BANKSY' tag on the front or the side, and even with those that do not, I know of many with neither the tag or a signature a PC COA becomes more important - but shouldn't make it more or less desirable. I'd think it comes down to more of the image that makes one more desirable than another.
Personally, I prefer all works (banksy or not) on wood or canvas - but in the case of Banksy original works, since he uses so many different mediums it doesn't effect the price quite as much that I have seen. The unique pieces or one offs (regardless of the medium) tend to be the most desirable as well as the most expensive.
With all this said, I am no way an expert, just going on what I've seen over the past 8 months or so in trying to track one down for myself.

Signed or not signed, by nacional on May 4, 2010 12:54:49 GMT 1, No other opinions??
Or should I have put this kind of question in a different section of the forum.
I do like the word forum, always reminds me of a jazz mag I used to buy when I was about 12 that purported itself to be a magazine for naturalists who always seemed to be playing volleyball or standing behind bushes, both which obscured the whole bloody point of me buying the mag in the first place....
