agree with the gallery angle.... wouldn't want such images on my walls.
however, i do remember seeing Marcus Harvey's 'Myra' at the Saatchi Sensation show a few years ago. Made using children's handprints, it was very thought provoking

Russell Young ๐ฌ๐ง Pop Art โข Silkscreen โข New Release, by ell on May 13, 2007 14:28:47 GMT 1, My wife was interested in his Jane Fonda arrest mugshot, but when I found out the price I decided to create my own. I've downloaded the freely available arrest mugshot (only found a smallish one though, if anyone knows were you can find them larger please tell) and I was going to blow it up to 50cm square (for Habitat frame). I'll apply a course halftone dot in a rich red and get my mate who's got a large format ink jet printer to print it for me (he owes me a favour) and job done for the cost of a frame. This is the idea, although this is cropped and hasn't quite got the impact as it's smaller
how about using rasterbator? homokaasu.org/rasterbator/ you can use a fairly small image and it will convert it into dots, like the image you posted. its really cool.
anyway i like the kate and pete thing. i personally wouldn't have it on my wall though, especially for that price! but i like it

Russell Young ๐ฌ๐ง Pop Art โข Silkscreen โข New Release, by corblimeylimey on May 13, 2007 14:47:24 GMT 1, I've just had a look at that rasterbator site, it's not going to do me any favours unfortunately as it breaks it down into pages, wereas I just want it 500mm square at around 150 - 200 pixels per inch as I've got access to a large format printer.
I did it in Photoshop, convert the image to Greyscale then go to Filter>Pixelate>Colour Halftone choose the dot size, then convert it back to colour and make the black (and white for that matter) whatever colour you want.
It looks more like this than the smaller pic I posted
But I think I'll have the background colour like this

dont you need to invert the image as well before the halftone? my bad. i tried using the filter gallery instead of the filter itself. no need to invert isnt it fun doin your own art? now if i could convince some punters to buy the prints
how do you switch the dot colours anyway? just by adjusting the "colour balance"?

Russell Young ๐ฌ๐ง Pop Art โข Silkscreen โข New Release, by corblimeylimey on May 13, 2007 18:13:05 GMT 1, mcnuts, I've got Photoshop CS2 no need to invert the image on that.
There's so many different ways to get the same result in Photoshop so find what suits yourself best, personally as I work in CMYK most of the time, I'll convert to CMYK then go to Adjust>Curves and drag the top right hand corner so in this case make the Black channel flat (0) and I brought the Cyan channel to 30%. You also could do a Select> Select Colour click on a black dot make a colour in the palette and Fill. For the whites you can do the same, or click inverse selection then fill with another colour.
As I said there's not really a right way, or a wrong way there's dozens of ways to get the same end result, have fun.
What image are you working on mcnuts?
Just for fun try playing around with the curves with a colour pic, go really mad with it not just on the RGB (or CMYK) but with individual channels too.
Got this
from this
using this, plus a few other changes in individual colour channels

Russell Young ๐ฌ๐ง Pop Art โข Silkscreen โข New Release, by Grafter on May 18, 2007 23:50:31 GMT 1, Sorry, I just can't believe how easily people have dissmissed the usage of Brady & Hindley's images. I know some people on this forum are either American and therefore unaware of who they are, or are too young to know exactly what they did. As an older member of this site, let me enlighten you to how despicable these two are. They were responsible for kiddnapping several children in the 1960's and then used a tape recorder to record the childrens pleas and cries for help as they went about sexualy abiusing and torturing them before ultimatly ending their young lives. Belive me if they were around today, their exploits woul have been straight on you tube. I wonder how easily you would have dissmissed them then. They then buried their victims on the vast, remote Sadleworth moors and over the next 50 years after their conviction refused to tell the police where the bodies were. Despite the reletives pleas to let them burie their lost ones with some dignity.
I know some of you may write very clever explanations to support these pieces, but I feel some inages are just too offensive. To use these two bastards is this way helps to iconicise them and only lessen the impact of their actions.
If you feel that i'm over-reacting, just take a second to imagine how you'd feel if they had preyed on one of your own children or a family member. Then think how you would feel seeing people fighting for the chance to pay ยฃ1800 for a picture of them.
Lest we Forget.....

Russell Young ๐ฌ๐ง Pop Art โข Silkscreen โข New Release, by dburn on Jan 22, 2008 20:35:05 GMT 1, good day all
I was in South Hampton New York the other day and stopped in a gallery who had large pieces of work from an artist named Russell Young. I brought up Banksy and the people at the gallery were well aware of Banksy and said that this artist, Russell Young shares a gallery with Banksy somewhere in London called Booth Gallery. I did a little research and didn't come up with much. Was wondering if anyone knew of the gallery or Russell Young's work Thanx Cheerz

I think it was a good concept but I personally couldn't live with them (They are based on two notorious child killers in the UK).

It's a play on the mugshots of the Moors Murderers, Myra Hindly (i.e. Kate on the left - the female if that helps ) and Ian Brady (Pete D - the chap) on the right.
Great image IMO.

Russell is managed by Stuart Bird, of Bird Fine Art, based in LA, but he's incredibly difficult to get hold of, so i'd go the Sims Reed route.
