M-M-Micallef, by mcmcmc on Mar 19, 2007 14:40:06 GMT 1, All been a bit quiet on the Micallef front since Xmas hasn't it? What is he up to? Any new prints from him that are more affordable than the 4k ones from Laz? I know this may not be a popular thing to say but he is probably my favourite artist, even more so than a certain Mr Banksy.

Yeah I love micallefs work, probably better than Banksys. Waiting for the next affordable print to come out. Still not framed my friendly fire though

M-M-Micallef, by slowmo on Mar 19, 2007 15:28:22 GMT 1, I think POW may have another print of his in the future. But on the Micallef front, plenty is going on. They are auctioning number's 10/10 of all ten eyestorm prints A/P at Sotherby's on 4th April.
Go on Eyestorm now and they are selling dirty deluxe and 21st Century love 5/10 A/P. He also is having a show at the Exeter Eyestorm, not sure exactly when but Cor Blimey Limey posted it up.
The main thing is, money!!! More and more this is the reason you are hearing less and less about Micallef, the A/P on eyestorm will set you back about ยฃ5k and so will a print from Laz.
So no ยฃ250-ยฃ300 prints means little coverage on the forums, as very few of us can afford the thousands his prints now command. For the same money you can pick up some decent original material from other artists.

In my opinion he's purley an artist, so his works have more appeal to the general collector. Banksy's a graffer and always will be

M-M-Micallef, by slinkink on Mar 23, 2007 19:41:35 GMT 1, know what you mean stuey... might be heresy but i check the micallef section more than the banksy one <grin> would dearly love for pow to find some more save my souls behind the sofa. i genuinely don't get how that overpainted print isn't more highly regarded. at what point exactly does an overpaint become an original... i mean a lot of us on here would pay way more for a print with a signature which the artist probably did in seconds (if that). surely an artist overpainting their own print is in many ways even more original...... perhaps i should start a new thread with that comment!!! either that or i'll have minus 50 respect points by teatime!!... perhaps slightly different for artists like faile of course since theirs nearly always have different 'coffee' stains on...
that's the fab thing about art though eh... each to their own.
