Banksy believed to be behind 'Run For Your Lives!!!' mural in Primrose Hill pub
By Daily Mail Reporter Last updated at 9:32 PM on 10th June 2010
Graffiti artist Banksy has 'stuck' in yet another night-time raid, producing a mural on the wall of a Primrose Hill pub.
The managers of the Princess of Wales, Karen and Lawrence Santi, were initially upset to discover there had been an intruder overnight before discovering the uninvited guest was none other than the famous mystery artist, who produces most of his works undetected and closely guards his identity.
Banksy's work has been sold for hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Hallmarks: The mural at Primrose Hill's Princess Of Wales pub contains several indications that it was painted by Banksy
Hard at work: CCTV shows the artist standing back to admire his creation
Miss Santo revealed her husband was about to begin painting over the outdoor mural of a lion and little girl, above which the message 'run for your lives!!!' is written in red paint, when they learned the identity of the artist.
She said the artist had most likely entered through a gate that was accidentally left open, or by using a stepladder captured in the CCTV footage. While the footage of the incident shows Banksy clearly, his face is covered by a hooded top.
The footage, which begins at about 1am, shows him setting up a light to illuminate his 'canvas' and standing back to appraise his work.
Scene of the 'crime': The pub's managers believe the artist entered either through an open gate or by using a step ladder to climb into an outdoor area
Identity guarded: While the footage shows the artist for the duration of his stay, his face is covered by a hooded top the whole time
While there is no concrete proof the work belongs to Banksy, the signature on a balloon string in the mural appears to be his.
Banksy's name has been reported as Robin Gunningham and he is said to have been born in Bristol in 1974, but that remains a rumour.
He could be seen arranging a light to allow him to work and standing back to inspect the mural.

Personally I'd say it was an elaborate hoax - Well done Mr & Mrs Santi - I always point my CCTV towards an unremarkable wall of mirrors! - but I guess we'll see...

Sounds about right. The work is trying too hard to be a Banksy. That said though it does look quite pretty =) and its sad that the artist isn’t getting credited for it, just to make some extra business for the weekend =S.

Banksy in a pub in Primrose Hill?, by sarnie on Jun 25, 2010 10:23:32 GMT 1, If the pub did organise this to generated interest and revenues it’s a good marketing ploy, classic that the camera was pointing in exactly the position LOL

Banksy in a pub in Primrose Hill?, by Happy Shopper on Jun 25, 2010 11:47:07 GMT 1, Obviously fake.
I find it interesting that people claim that more than 1 person is "Banksy", yet whenever the style isn't right you can spot it straight away. Could that be done by more than one person?
