Leonard Street Gallery is proud to announce the opening of WAR PEN, an exhibition of new works by celebrated artists DOZE GREEN and ROSTARR.

Doze Green (Rock Steady Crew) and Rostarr (Beautiful Losers) have both graced the scene for many years displaying their various forms of artistic expressions through painting, drawings, music, fashion and film. For the first time in the UK, these prolific artists will come together to create a visual journey for the viewer to experience through their display of these various forms and mediums.

Through stream-of-consciousness painting, both artists use traditional graffiti techniques involving energy and motion to create forms that exist in a visual meeting place of ideas. Doze Green explores meditations on matter and anti-matter, layers of consciousness, and different possibilities based on cosmology, while Rostarr’s stylized calligraphic writings introduce grace and tension as a distinctly human gesture. This collaboration is an extension of this metaphysical concept that becomes visually displayed through an installation based exhibition from both artists.

About The Artists

Doze Green
Doze Green was born and raised in the upper west side of Manhattan, New York City and was one of the pioneers of the Hip-Hop culture. He first started writing graffiti in his neighborhood in 1974, and started painting subway trains in 1976. The following year he joined the Rock Steady Crew.

From B-boy to graffiti legend, he's become a proponent of the avant-garde "fusionistic" art movement. Best known for his characters, Doze Green has begun to concentrate on canvases that blend wildstyle techniques with metaphysical concepts. Doze Green is also known for his live painting performances. Doze Green’s work is in many public and private collections throughout the United States, Japan, Europe, and Australia. His works have been published in BlackBook, Anthem, Juxtapoz, Tokion, and Vibe and reviewed on CNN.

Rostarr
Rostarr's background lies in graphic design, but he's gained acclaimed credit and buzz for his paintings that are reminiscent of Ryan McGuiness work with iconography. Large format, colorful canvas' encompassing symbols related to nature, human psychology and mysticism.

He's also been a core member of the highly respected Barnstormers - a collective of New York/Tokyo-based artists such as Swoon and Jose Parla who create large-scale collaborative paintings, films and performances - since 1999. Kimin shows his paintings, drawings, graphics, music and film projects across the United States, Europe, Japan and beyond.

I'm shocked that there's no discussion about this show.... 100% pure quality, and the best Leonard Street production for a long while.

Great show - I had no preconceived ideas being unfamiliar with both artists work, but I'm pleased I showed up - the artwork(especially the larger canvases) were fantastic.

Doze Green's "Oddensity" piece was the star of the show for me, striking and full of intricate detail, not obvious at first glance.

I was told by TLSG's Hannah that there are references to Mary Magdalene, hallucinogenic drugs and who knows what else!

I believe it was 15k - and if I had that sort of Moolah to drop on some art - I'd have snapped it up. Lovely.

In any case, as always nice to see some of the usual faces, drink free booze and discuss art.

I took a couple of pics of the art - but as Romanwygs are so fantastic - no point uploading them.

oh - I should add - the artists and their entourage really 'looked the part' Think 'The Specials' or the Blues Brothers - sharp suits, pork pie hats and dark sunglasses (indoors at night.)

really like Doze. Some very nice pieces.

Oh Doze how much do I love thee. I remember seeing an original canvas on ebay 5 years ago that was selling for £500 that went unsold. I would have had it in a second if I had the cash to spare but I'd just bought a canvas by my all time fave artist Peeta and being one of those poor artist types it's the only canvas I've ever bought.

Does anyone have some pics of the Rostarr pieces at the show? It's a shame I can't make it over there to see the show!

Brilliant show this! I was very impressed ;D I will try to get a short video of it done at some point over the next few days.

Leonard Street Gallery have some very nice Rostarr Prints available for £100 each, but its a very small edition of only 35 so if you fancy one I would get it ordered now if you can.
