adam NEATE spray paint PORTRAITS @ elms SHOW, by covertshadowops on Aug 18, 2008 19:44:41 GMT 1, adam NEATE spray paint PORTRAITS @ elms SHOW.... these beauties...
i have been talking to my mate about since the show ended and we keep disagreeing over them.
never much said about them from the adam & ron show @ elms. are these worth the money, or just to fill the cheap end of the market. circa ยฃ8K i remember.
more to the point... where are they all? they all sold out... but have these gone under the radar?
are we going to see more of these in the future? and like the pots he did.... where are they? as the 2D / 3D work is getting crazy prices... ยฃ30K+
that right hand side, middle one is my fave! (not mine btw)
opinions please. cheers

Uhhh..... they're probably in personal collections and not going anywhere soon. You think the fact that many haven't surface on the secondary & auction market as a bad thing???
They were stunning in the flesh. Paul at Elms Lesters told me that Adam laid out the pieces of paper and sprayed them in continuous movement (which is pretty evident since they aren't 'drippy' at all)
Heard these were the first to sell out - maybe it was because the entry point was cheaper or maybe because they are a nice progression and similar to his roots of his street-placed work.
That being said - sure 1-2 may pop up in the next year but I think people are enjoying these.

adam NEATE spray paint PORTRAITS @ elms SHOW, by Winter on Aug 18, 2008 19:54:03 GMT 1, I was chatting to one person who actually picked one up on the night, one of the nicest ones as well. I'm pretty sure he is a member of here or WK. These were a highlight of the show for me - I'd say these are tricky things to do well.

adam NEATE spray paint PORTRAITS @ elms SHOW, by hlarmy on Aug 18, 2008 20:20:20 GMT 1, I'm pretty sure they were ยฃ8k - as for being the highlight of the show, I have to disagree. There was some stunning work at the show (in fact 80% of the work was incredible) but I would personally say that these were disappointing for me. Each to there own
EDIT: I think I'd rather your piece Jopkop

adam NEATE spray paint PORTRAITS @ elms SHOW, by Deleted on Aug 18, 2008 20:25:15 GMT 1, yeah I prefer mine too hlarmy, but I gotta sell to study. I've always liked these kind of things by adam. He made (2004 I think) a serie of drawings with pencil, absolutly loved them, unfortunatly never seen them again..

adam NEATE spray paint PORTRAITS @ elms SHOW, by Heavyconsumer on Aug 18, 2008 21:57:46 GMT 1, Silky and Slammer I agree with both of you! I think these are absolutely stunning and would love one on our wall, where it would stay for a long long time! However ยฃ8k for what amounts to a doodle (or under 1 minute of labour), as Slammer says, seems a touch opportunistic! They did sell out fast though, so there's the justification for the pricing right there and if his pricing stays on it's current trajectory, I'm sure those buyers will be even more chuffed in 10/20 years' time!!! I think Slammer, that those of you priviledged enough to get doodles should really feel quite honoured and here is the evidence of that! To have spent his evening doing that shows what type of guy he is imo!

adam NEATE spray paint PORTRAITS @ elms SHOW, by covertshadowops on Aug 21, 2008 21:20:06 GMT 1, haha... i see the same chat me and my mate have..... so many people think they are great and then many people say they are not!
Paul was telling me how hard these are for Adam to do... and he doesnt want to do anymore... as just to produce 20 of them, takes 40 goes.... and rips all the other up.
I mean... every stroke of the can is perfection.... any slight wrong spray and the image is torn up... so i reckon these are pretty iconic for their time as he develops into a true artist for many years to come.
I cant afford the big pieces now... ยฃ30K+ is pushing past my gasp.... but i thought someone on here would have one to share.... or even to sell?
I think you have to see them in person to like them.... mainly with all adams stuff... but as simple as these are.. are masterful in their own right... ยฃ8K i think is a bargain.

Was gonna say the same thing. How many pieces did adam leave on the streets....Thousands. To be honest all of a very similar standard to these. 8k! Run and jump mate!

adam NEATE spray paint PORTRAITS @ elms SHOW, by holden on Aug 21, 2008 23:22:38 GMT 1, I like them and can appreciate the style and precision....somewhat akin to good calligraphy by the sounds of it.....the beauty coming from the continuous flow and energy of the spray.
I can see it would take many attempts to produce a few and altho 8K seems somewhat hefty I doubt many could do the same and maintain in essence what is the artist, Neate.
