World Cup 2010 - South Africa, by Daniel Silk on Apr 23, 2010 0:29:47 GMT 1, Bit of talk about Gerrard on the other thread, and just wondered about what England players you would rather not have flying out to the World Cup?
I would not have Gerrard or Terry Terry is way too slow, and is never gonna be able to handle the sort of forwards we are gonna see in Africa. Gerrard appears lazy at the best of times and lately its been worse then normal. Yes he can have moments of amazing skill, but the rest of the time he just slumps about in the middle of the park, and adds very little.
Just my opinion ;D What do you think?

agree to some level but in the case of Terry, he reads the game very well and organises the defence around him well, although not lately, but then he has had other things on his mind! Sly **** Can't really see anyone better to replace him.
Gerrard has the ability to completely run a game and even when he's had a bad game can turn it with one moment of class. He does go missing for large parts of the game though as you said, same can be said of Lampard. Not often that gerrard is played in the centre of midfield where he would prefer to play due to his versatility. Which can explain his lack of influence in some games.
Think the defence and midfield is pretty much sewn up and only person I can see breaking into the midfield places is Adam Johnson, though think that will depend on Aaron lennons fitness.
Our main problems are in attack, don't think heskey should go, he's not even played for villa in the last 5 games. Crouch, Rooney, Defoe are certainties, would like to see zamora play the next friendly, as he seems to be the only target man type striker in form, and although not a great footballer, makes very intelligent runs to create space for other players.

World Cup 2010 - South Africa, by lastpost on Apr 25, 2010 20:34:37 GMT 1, Yeah, would like to see Zamora given a chance as he really seems up for it at the moment. Heskey might be ok, for that little something different but as you say, we have no idea at the moment what sort of form he's in
Silkmeister...I hope the Heskey comment was tongue in cheek?
Something different...to something that is good?
I agree with the comment above about Bobby Z being given a chance in a friendly...worth a try!

World Cup 2010 - South Africa, by Deleted on Apr 25, 2010 21:04:41 GMT 1, pretty surprised that some people favour holland (voted for them myself, wishful thinking etc).
expect a lot from argentina.. Maradona won't be a s**thead enough to brake this team. NO chance for the UK there I guess... hope they will survive the group rounds, but after that no chance..
Don't think Brasil will do that good too, the problems in the preps etc....

From here:
LOL are you local? which walls do you piss on? hope it's not true, would be disastrous. Ha....I did read this in this weeks popb**ch and wondered whom it was about... >> Big Questions << What people are asking this week? Which premiership star is being linked to a pregnant 16 year-old while his wife is linked to a Championship player? We're told to expect a high-profile move abroad this summer...
At least he'll have one of his own then though

World Cup 2010 - South Africa, by schlomo on Apr 27, 2010 15:02:06 GMT 1, Personally i dont see why England don't have a shout.... I think with Rooney on form we can beat anyone. Personally i'd play dawson and king at the back as often as possible as its easily our best back line at the mo, Terry for me can sit at home and swivel on it, he's not been anywhere near good enough to start for us, and frankly he's a horrid little bugger. I cant reallsy see who else should start at the back, obviously the disgusting cole will have to play, and johnson?? Gerrard... murrr, you play him or lampard, its much of a muchness in terms of them both being lazy and massively overrated. I'd much rather play Carrick and Barry, at least it'll balance nicely.

Both defensive mid though !! Gerard will play out wide to accommodate lamps and Barry imo, like he often does at the pool. Otherwise we will struggle to find goals in midfield
