Nick Walker strikes again in Brooklyn (pictures), by thesewalls on May 24, 2008 11:03:02 GMT 1, Yes y'all, the 'vandal' has left his mark once again...about 5 blocks from the remote control giraffe (Williamsburg, Brooklyn...this one's on the corner of Wythe & N.3rd). It was done around the same time as the others, I just haven't had a chance to bring my camera over there and post em up. In turn, someone has tastefully (HA!) added a smiley face to the heart. So here you go, another bit of love left behind...
I also have a side story in regards to the giraffe piece. My good friend is close with the owners of the shop NW did the art outside of. Apparently he asked their permission, they all hung out for a few, than NW went to work. He used a projector to display the image on the wall, than worked off that to paint the piece. It was really windy that night, which my boy said accounts for the not-so-impressive execution of the piece...he watched him work, and struggle, to create it. Beyond that the details were lacking - I just wanted to provide the little bit of info i had on the subject, which is at least noteworthy. I asked him what it was like to hang out with Nick Walker...what he was like. The answer: focused.

Interesting details regarding how the piece was projected on the wall. I've never heard of that method being used on the street before. I am quite surprised he didn't use a stencil, as the piece doesn't look all that large. Any ideas if the same technique was used on the giraffe piece?

I believe he was talking about the giraffe piece when he was talking about the use of a projector. I would think this smaller piece did use stencils, at least it looks like it.

Nick Walker strikes again in Brooklyn (pictures), by hopelessquest on May 24, 2008 17:16:02 GMT 1, Appears to be some serious p***s envy regarding the success of Nick Walker. Same negative posters appearing everytime. Yeah.. let's explore that, we have a large Nick Walker that appears in NYC overnight depicting an image of a giraffe painting the word vandal on a wall being controlled by a character Nick Walker and everyone else seems to call "the vandal" and then it comes to light that it was infact a legal knock.
Being legal it does make the image a little hard to swallow (the art is the act and all that) but fair enough if that's what he is into, but people aren't complaining about that, they are complainign about the overall quality, which is funny because it was legal, so he had all the time in the world, he could have come back the following day, but he didn't because he needed it to go up overnight because he needs people to think it's vandalism and not hypocracy. He needs to paint peoples perceptions for them, so you can hardly knock people who one would consider the audience when they have access to all the facts and don't find the same magic in this that they do with other artists.
Here's the thing, an artist can produce work of a lower quality and still be respected and loved by their audience if it was done for the right reasons and people feel there is a certain sincerity or credibility to the artists message or claim, if the image is stuck up in a place for the purposes of marketing then people will treat it like they treat other products in a consumer driven society and slag it off if they aren't feeling it. That's just the game.

legal or not is another story, and only adds to the ridiculousness, but either way the problem is this stuff is plain corny. Even if he didn't have permission painting "vandals" and giraffes" on walls is lame. Doesn't deserve to be on a building in Brooklyn.

Nick Walker strikes again in Brooklyn (pictures), by darjeeling on May 24, 2008 19:18:32 GMT 1, Of course it was done by Nick! Do you think anyone else would care to embellish such a lame piece? Wake up, that's how f**king lame he is. He paints smiley faces in f**king hearts in his vandal paintings. What the hell is wrong with all of you? There's so much good art out there and you guys are f**king obsessed about "vandals" and giraffes.

Darjeeling may not admire Walker's work but he sure opines about him obsessively. Kind of reminds me the way we used to talk about the first girl we had a crush on in primary school.

I keep having hope that maybe just maybe you guys will get a fucking clue. It's not just your current flavor of the month the sinister 'vandal' but every god damn thing on this fucking forum. You guys have the absolute worst, most immature taste in art I've ever seen. And you're the mist gullible suckers buying up this shit and anything that's posted on this forum in hopes of a quick buck. Time and time again you guys start chasing after something only when you see dollar signs. Or on the other hand maybe you don't have enough self assurance to like what kind of art you do until it's reaffirmed when hundreds of other lemmings line up to pay hundreds for it.
This scene is a fucking joke and so close minded it's sickening.

With his Brooklyn comment, it's obvious that this guys is clearly a 1/2 ass NY tough guy that justs hates on stuff he could never afford or appreciate.
If you're into originality spitting out that "Flavor of the Month" phrasing is what's really lame.
According to "Dajeeling" Nobody is allowed to comment on an artist who is currently making a move in the art world without being accused o being, "bandwagon jumpers" , "flavor of the month riders", being fake or "not keeping it real" or whatever.
What true pure progressive artist is DARJEELING into? Apparently only the Real art is what he's into.
So what's Real "non-ridiculous" art then you punk ass clown?
Not too pumped on NW's last few pieces either. Wouldn't mind Never seeing that Milton Glazer bitten "I heart NY" "Vandal" piece again.
But he's doing alot more than you are with your hater ass ways. At the end of the day, you're on a computer hating progress, while NW continues to create art.
