Am I the only person (other than Whatson - who did a beautiful giraffe image on paper/canvas recently) who thinks the giraffe is totally disproportioned? The vandal is good, but he's had lots of practice doing him now. I think the concept is very good and the placement is perfect, but the execution is lacking imo. I'm not a hater, there is some of Nick's work I think is brilliant, but this could have been done better.

A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person.

Hating, the result of being a hater, is not exactly jealousy. The hater doesnt really want to be the person he or she hates, rather the hater wants to knock somelse down a notch.

I take this to mean that, if someone claims an artist is crap, they cannot be called "a hater" if they are simply expressing a belief which is genuine.

kiki - yes, that statement is true for the most part, but genuine beliefs don't necessarily rule out hatred...the beliefs may in fact be grounded in hatred. it can be as complex as a state of mind, and as simple as a negative comment or reaction. it's also a word that grew out of the hip-hop movement, but is now used by all walks of life, and in the process has been diluted like so many other cultural phenomenons. the best example i can think of at the moment to sum up the idea of a 'hater' is the following phrase, popularized by some of the pioneers of Rap/Hip-Hop...Snoop Dogg for example...

"Don't hate the player, hate the game."

Respect the size of the big giraffe one but the little one has more impact for me.

I think we all seek different qualities and have our buttons pushed in different ways. Some people prefer not only different art to eachother, but often different aspects of the same art. Personally, I'm very big on aesthetics. I feel that if I think something looks "good" to me that's enough to satisfy me. There are pieces that are quite simple, which I can just sit and drift into because they're well put together, judging my my own requirements, but perhaps darjeeling woould find the same art shallow because it doesn't stimulate his thought muscle! I go in for humour and emotive responses too at at times in art which perhaps does less for me visually, but just trying to simplify things to make the point. Both Darj' and myself have criticised the same piece for entirely different reasons, because different flavours satisfy our individual tastebuds. Innit!

I agree with you asides from his poor execution all the promotion is making me think that nick walker isn't so much a street artist as he is an artist that chooses to paint on the street.
