Miss Bugs @ New Image Art Gallery - 7th August, by fielder on Aug 7, 2010 17:53:27 GMT 1, I think 'The Sun' is my favorite. Miss Bugs works have to be seen in person to really appreciate them. I hope someone will post pictures of them hanging in the gallery.

I started a campaign to get The Sun as their next Large Editioned Print Release.
If you feel the same, please let your voice be heard by sending Miss a quick note. miss@missbugs.com

Miss Bugs @ New Image Art Gallery - 7th August, by waveydavey on Aug 8, 2010 10:37:24 GMT 1, Whilst it all looks nice enough, and although this might be a thick question, what do these images mean? Does anyone know or care?
Honestly, wasn't paul insect doing this a couple of years back and at least his stuff looked to be a little more edgy.
Just my thoughts anyway.

www.paulinsect.com/shows/poisonldn/poisonldn.html
Even down to the Byzantine Art bite. I guess they are not spending too much time worrying about plagiarism. Still it goes to show how Paul is always ahead of the pack...

Miss Bugs @ New Image Art Gallery - 7th August, by jonvespa on Aug 9, 2010 5:35:50 GMT 1, i am a huge fan of MB, owning six hand finished prints and a large original from 2007....i was really excited to see MB finally hit the west coast....i got to the show at doors (actually 30 min early and waited) and walked right in, no line or anything. there was one or two other people max looking at the art, the rest of the people were staff of the gallery or of the artists. i have to be honest, it was a really weak show. MB are much more talented than this and could have made a serious splash rather than a drip...the pieces themselves were weak for MB. and where was the hype for the show? the street pieces?...and i hate that new image doesn't post public prices of the pieces, or let patrons use their restroom (so lame). just my humble opinion for what it's worth.
hopefully the next socal show will be a better representation of MB's true talent. and lastly, i think they would have been better suited with carmichael or lebasse....

Miss Bugs @ New Image Art Gallery - 7th August, by Ottomatik on Aug 9, 2010 13:20:47 GMT 1, As much as we have to pay for the prints at that show, it seems that they could afford to build a public restroom. Wanted to ask if anyone in the UK purchased a print from the show? If so, how much was shipping to the UK from LA. For 1 print, I had to pay $50 for shipping to the east coast from the west coast.

That's what has been rumoured in the past and it does make more sense than most suggestions.
On the plagiarism part, that's what they do, or have been doing for some time now. Taking elements from other artists work and constructing them into new pieces. I'm not saying I don't like their work, as I have some in my collection. But it would be nice to see something original for a change. It is not as if they are not capable of producing something groundbreaking themselves.

Miss Bugs @ New Image Art Gallery - 7th August, by darren433 on Aug 9, 2010 21:54:47 GMT 1, In my view, over the last few years Miss Bugs has been as consistently good as anyone. Yes, some works are better than others, but that's true with everyone. Let's be honest, even some of Banksy's recent works have been less than inspiring.
But most of Miss Bugs' recent output -- including the recent outdoor pieces that blended with the background -- is simply astonishing, both in terms of the depth of the ideas and the complexity of the process. In my opinion, MB is simply operating on a different level from many of the more popular artists in the scene.
As for the Paul Insect comparisons, I get it, at least with respect to certain Insect pieces. But the same was said early in Banksy's career with respect to the similarities between his work and that of Blek. The bottom line for me is that I can't think of a single Insect piece I would rather have over a single comparable MB piece, just as I can't think of a single Blek piece I would rather have over a single comparable Banksy piece.
As for the new show itself, I haven't been in person, so can only judge by what I see on the web, but based on the pics, some of the new works --especially "Searching 4 Her" -- are as good as anything the Bugs has ever done.

You don't see much stuff sell in the secondary market so will be interesting to see where this ends up: cgi.ebay.com/Miss-Bugs-The-Year-Super-Rat-Nation-Bronze-AP-/190427830469?pt=Art_Prints

Miss Bugs @ New Image Art Gallery - 7th August, by Gentle Mental on Aug 10, 2010 5:57:29 GMT 1, it's mixing matching, shredding, sticking and pasting to form a "human"-like shape, loads of artists do it, not just Insect or Bugs, (incl BAST, JUDITH, DAIN, FAILE, BLAKE, Dface, etc etc) some differently, some same same...
It's all cool, as long as the end result is something beautiful.
And these are gorgeous.
because they make the most exciting pictures out there at the moment.

My favorites were 'The Sun', 'Playing with Her Beliefs', 'Hiding Behind Her Belief' and 'Searching For Her'. Very psyched to be able to see everything in person. The AP's also stood up very well.

Miss Bugs @ New Image Art Gallery - 7th August, by Ottomatik on Aug 12, 2010 13:25:01 GMT 1, ''In this transitional body of work, Miss Bugs draws initial influence from the imagery of religious icons and paintings. Playing within the limitations of the composition that is characteristic of religious images of the Virgin Mary, modern throwaway imagery is mixed up with the symbolic, to create powerful visions of the female form. The decorative element, black graphic line and flatness are intrinsic to the work. The figures are depicted with veiled or partly masked faces and the eye is drawn to the delicate hands. The slight distortion of scale gives the figures an otherworldly feel and warps the modern idea of conventional beauty.''
