Miss Bugs @ New Image Art Gallery - 7th August, by danno on Aug 29, 2010 16:05:09 GMT 1, i am a huge fan of MB, owning six hand finished prints and a large original from 2007....i was really excited to see MB finally hit the west coast....i got to the show at doors (actually 30 min early and waited) and walked right in, no line or anything. there was one or two other people max looking at the art, the rest of the people were staff of the gallery or of the artists. i have to be honest, it was a really weak show. MB are much more talented than this and could have made a serious splash rather than a drip...the pieces themselves were weak for MB. and where was the hype for the show? the street pieces?...and i hate that new image doesn't post public prices of the pieces, or let patrons use their restroom (so lame). just my humble opinion for what it's worth. hopefully the next socal show will be a better representation of MB's true talent. and lastly, i think they would have been better suited with carmichael or lebasse....
I went to the show with my daughter the following Tuesday of the opening and really liked the work. My only disappointment was I had hoped to see some works on metal. I thought the show was actually better than expected from what I had seen in the preview.
I really liked "Awaiting Silence" on bronze, I didnt care much for that image from the preview, but on bronze it really pops out at you with the vast array of colors.
Also really liked all 3 of "The Study" series. "Her Beliefs" was outstanding, my second favorite from the show. The huge "Mother", that was by far my favorite. Its my favorite mb image and the size, depth and texture of it is insane. Too bad it will be painted over eventually.
I didnt need to use the bathroom while there, but yeah if you are having an exhibit, especially at these prices, a chamberpot should be provided at the least. Valid point.
A few crappy pics I took: www.flickr.com/photos/20222053@N06/sets/72157624578614327/
