LOL! What you talking about leave the guy alone?! Am I not allowed to negatively comment on the work of some artist because you think all his work is amazing? Grow up.
I like some of Nick's work, I don't think this is good.

Nick Walker - New work in Bristol, by gerry on Sept 30, 2008 13:43:33 GMT 1, See, i like it, partly cos it's a bit more freehand than his more recent work, but mostly cos he's dropped the Vandal thing for it, which i think shows he's keeping his work mixed up, when other artists (especially after plugging away for 20 odd years for little reward) would have thought they'd hit pay dirt and carried on flogging the same thing to death.
Sure he'll go back to the Vandal thing again, but like the fact he's doing other stuff alongside it and isn't afraid to keep moving on.

Nick Walker - New work in Bristol, by jonpud on Sept 30, 2008 15:13:09 GMT 1, Nick is constantly working on new stuff, I was lucky enough to see some of his works in progress when I last met him, as for the Vandal, he aint dead yet! He will be around for a little while longer, but he is close to getting caught in the act and likelihood is there won't be any new pieces from him once he does!
The Vandal to Nick is what the rats are to Banksy, he is still throwing rats up today, no one ever gets tired of seeing them, although I do agree that Banksy mixes them in with other individual works. Perhaps a lesson Nick could learn!?

Nick Walker - New work in Bristol, by seidbereit on Sept 30, 2008 15:14:56 GMT 1, ... its a very clever bit with a funny title all your looking at is the art not the message ...
Hmmm... I have a lot of time for NW and recognise that he's very talented but I don't get this one at all. It's a coat with lots of arms and beside it it says "The Coat of Arms" in large letters. I don't see what the message is.
Can you please explain it for me?

Glad to hear the vandal story has a few more turns to take before he starts to worry about soap on the floor. ;D

Nick Walker - New work in Bristol, by gerry on Sept 30, 2008 16:48:55 GMT 1, I don't see what the message is. Can you please explain it for me?
Well my take on it is a triple meaning really
1. Literally, it's a coat with lots of arms 2. (perhaps more tenuously) Getting up on the street is the act of spreading your emblem or identifying symbol, similar to a coat of arms being displayed back in the day. 3. It's a coat armed with lots of painting equipment, making reference to the whole militaristic terms within graf, bombing, etc. This is the weakest meaning for me, as every bugger and his dog is making references to the phrase bombing these days. Always have done i guess, Banksy did tons of references like that back in the day certainly.
Perhaps i'm reading too much into it, but those were my thoughts anyway.

At no point has anyone been negative towards nick, people are just saying they don't like this specific piece of graff. End of.

Disagree completely. His coloured choices are his strength. You only have to look at the Vandal palette to see that!

Nick Walker - New work in Bristol, by LEVI C on Oct 6, 2008 12:57:37 GMT 1, Yeh, I agree with most on this one. I love his stuff (most of it), but to me this one makes it look like he is having trouble moving his 'ideas' away from the Vandal. If this is the case, I don't envy him at all (well I do really). With his recent rise in popularity 'artists block' is the last thing he needs when expectations are so high. This is just my thoughts, but I bet I'm right! His ideas were never the strongest, where as, in my opinion this techniques are. I'm really interested to see his next idea that is not the Vandal.
