Nick Walker vandalised , by deckstar on Oct 12, 2008 20:17:11 GMT 1, Just been for a print at the Highbury Vaults in Bristol and noticed that the Nick Walker piece that was painted on the side of the building has had white paint thrown over it  I spoke to Brad inside, he said they found a can of exterior paint on the ground on Sunday morning. But he reckons they are going to try and find a firm that maybe able to remove the paint and leave the image intact.
There not sure who did it, but i reckon its someone who hates graffiti and wanted it removed, which wouldn't happen, so if they f**ked it up the pub would have no choice.

Not only is his stuff obviously biting off of Banksy but the fact of a lacking message and the whole "vandal" thing only adds to my distaste for dude.

couldn't agree more, it's not even ironic it's so well done. i'd look at it and laugh now raher than look and think oh that's a pretty picture. it'll get more of a response for sure.
the whole vandal thing it getting a bit tired now IMO, can we not now see 'the Gypsy' or 'the happyslapper' i think he's needing a new theme!

People were organising lynch mobs when some work got dogged at Leake St.
It's all part the game (graffiti) Work gets buffed or dogged and if you're a writer you have to swallow it, move on, improve, evolve, find more choice spots.
BUT to say going over someones work has improved it it not only disrespectful to the artist but also the scene you claim to be into!
So are Blek and Banksy 'flogging an image to death' when it comes to rats? There are even elements of Nick's work that are apparent in Banksy's work.
Yeh the Vandals in danger of becoming overused but that's an cheap and easy dig. Check back and look a twenty years of back catalouge. Read some graff books and see what somone like Tris Manco says about his rep

i'm well aware about what the books say about his rep, i have his older pieces on my wall, i am also aware that he's just really picked up this vandal theme in the past year unlike blek and banksy who have and will always use rats in their themes. that's not a valid argument.
i don't like Nicks new stuff, personally i think it's weak and the theme is just boring, some say the same with dface and his wings and skulls etc, but that's just my opinion. same vanadal same paint different backdrop......yawn.
i just like the idea that the vandal or the subject that is spraying loves vandalism has now in fact been vandalised. it wouldn't work with any other piece it's just good composition here if it was intentinally meant to be just that.

nick walker has always done pretty pictures with imo no real thought behind them in loads of different versions of the same image preferred his freestyle stuff as ego tbh

Yes and it wasn't very well proportioned either!
I like plenty of Nick's work, and a little of it I think is actually brilliant, but I don't see what that has to do with my looking at the above image and thinking that it's improved by the splash. As some have already pointed out, this probably is not a randomly thrown bucket of paint - the composition is perfect. It works perfectly with the theme and the style of many of Nick Walker's trademark "Vandal" images.
Is it even beyond the realms of possibility that Nick did it? I realise this is unlikely but I'm just throwing an idea out there.
