Good advice; in a nutshell
1. Mint 2. Unframed 3. COA 4. Inspect in person (although difficult if based overseas) 5. Paypal if you're not paying cash on collection 6. Stored flat (not essential if a recent release)
Have I left anything out?

Looking for Banksy in the 2,169.64 GBP range, by thomasmd on Oct 1, 2010 15:40:33 GMT 1, THanks for the help guys!
Will keep these points in mind! One factor which is difficult to control in my case is (that) im based in Vienna, making an ocular inspection for that particular purpose would be taxing. Would an alternate option be buying in gallery (although the big price difference factors in)?
Or perhaps buying from a very reliable member in this forum (in which case i have to do referencing).
Cheers!

It's really all about doing your homework and educating yourself. All you need to know is contained somewhere on this site.
But be warned, once you start it's hard to stop. Get out now while you still can, and still have some money.
If you still want to carry on, make sure your girlfriend/wife/partner is tolerant. If not, chuck them now.

Art is really addictive. Im not really new to the art scene, lets say, this could be yet another (expensive) chapter in my enthusiasm wherein i will immerse in a new genre (but i have been hovering around for a bit)! . Great to know that people here are supportive.
BtW, ive chucked 'em so the equation is less complex! Hahah!

Looking for Banksy in the 2,169.64 GBP range, by Brushstrokes 75 on Oct 1, 2010 17:02:33 GMT 1, Got a nice budget there for a start (buying banksy's) thomas.
One other trick would be to ask if people can put a buy it now on ebay.
Let's say that you make a deal for £2.4K for a no ball games.
Just ask the seller to set up an ebay buy it now with a price of £1 and shipping cost £2399 (cost of the operation less than £1, full protection as ebay in case of a dispute will always reimburse price + shipping).
If you go with paypal, remember that if you use paypal without ebay. You can only escalate to paypal if you haven't received the item. If you consider that the item received was not as described or damaged, you won't have any recourse.
Guys, do you imagine that you have to pay 100 euros everytime you buy something that's insane.
I'm coming to London next week and my ticket by eurostar was 115 euros by plane it was almost 200 euros!
Alternatively, you can always use a genuine escrow system (like escrow.com) but it has a cost as well!
@ Art destroyed me... don't go out of my appartment, I eat pasta everyday so cam my walls (and portfolios) look pretty.. Just joking héhé

Looking for Banksy in the 2,169.64 GBP range, by Brushstrokes 75 on Oct 1, 2010 17:23:16 GMT 1, Find me a ticket for October 5th cheaper than that. Considering that I have to have a bag to put stuff in. Add the fact that I have to pay the bus or train to come from Luton to London.
For october 5th price is 190 euros with 1 bag (170 euros without) without talking about the the bus / train fares. (I've done my research lool...)
You only pay a fee on the price sold... What's the fee for a £1 item?
I meant that if you can't meet and you don't want to take a chance it's the safer way (compared to just send a paypal payment).

Looking for Banksy in the 2,169.64 GBP range, by walshy on Oct 1, 2010 17:29:49 GMT 1, My point was if he wanted to come collect a print, a flight is not that much of an expensive option... maybe x 2 the shipping costs. But a nice way to see the UK for a couple of days
I also just wanted to show that there are many flights cheaper than 200 euros

Looking for Banksy in the 2,169.64 GBP range, by Brushstrokes 75 on Oct 1, 2010 17:35:42 GMT 1, Yeah but you can't always plan 3 months in advance to buy a print lol. Imagine you're selling a banksy, would you wait 3 months for the guy to pay you and pick it up.... You didn't show me that there were flights cheaper than 200 euros lol (at least not for the day I needed to come).
But, of course, if you sync with the seller to come fly and spend few days in the UK and take the advantage of visiting the UK to collect and pay a print, it's always nicer. (but as I said the focus of the trip is a bit different lol). You need time & money to come. If you spend few days you also have to pay hotels, food, drinks... I guess that it would comes out a lot cheaper to just use shipping lol
Sorry to have been a bit off topic, just hope that you see my point!

Looking for Banksy in the 2,169.64 GBP range, by Brushstrokes 75 on Oct 1, 2010 17:55:34 GMT 1, I'm only coming for the day lol
Conclude some trades. Pick up stuff and do some drop off. I came because the price of shipping one canvas was more expensive than coming (by the way I said that I paid my eurostar ticket 115 euros lol).
Why are you picking on me today walshy? lol
Just wanted to say that collection is not always cheap and easy and there also are other secured ways to conclude a transaction!
To come back to the main discussion :
You'll have several options for signed banksy prints in your price range (the most "recent" releases mostly)!

Looking for Banksy in the 2,169.64 GBP range, by jakek on Oct 1, 2010 18:10:33 GMT 1, There's some great advice here inbetween the tips for cheap european travel.
I'd echo what the others have said.
By buying a print with a PC you can rest assured you've got a genuine one. And by opting for unframed you can be sure that it hasn't been framed badly in the past (i think a fair few of the early prints have been mistreated as back then noone had any idea that they would ever go up in value at all, let alone jump to where they are now).
Looking at completed ebay listings will give you an idea of what is within your budget. People on here are usually happy to answer questions about going rates although the conversations are often influenced by people who have them rating the print at more than those looking to buy one!
have fun looking!

Looking for Banksy in the 2,169.64 GBP range, by thomasmd on Oct 1, 2010 18:36:59 GMT 1, Thanks Guys! 'learning from all of your thoughts!
I guess i just have to keep on searching and looking until the right one comes along. Of course there is the issue of authencity that i have to keep in mind, so getting it from a reliable source is an important factor. Flying to London, albeit sounds fun, entails time of work lost plus extra costs! (although i think i could fly to london for less than 120 EUROS , however, ticket needs to be purchased months in advance!).
Going back, if you know anyone "reliable", just tell them to pm me for offers. We'll see. I also might consider gallery offers.
Thanks a lot! 'Enjoyed the forum!

Not sure that's totally correct dude. (getting the full postage fees refunded that is) The seller would also get a small ass kicking for fee avoidance. (been there, done that....)

Never got a problem before with fee avoidance. I'm not saying to do that systematically but to close a large deal if there are trust issues, it can help. (Of course, if you systematically do that, they'll spot you directly).
By the way, I'm 100% sure that ebay (or paypal) refund 100% of the original shipping if you don't receive the item or the item is not as described. The buyer will surely have to pay the return shipping but ebay/paypal gives full refund almost automatically in those cases... (As you said, been there, done that..) ;D ;D
