The original photographs were printed onto one and a half thousand 100cm wide paper rolls, each roll being as long as required for each picture or wall. For example, each set of eyes is roughly 50 rolls, obviously considerably more for the kibera train and the pregnant girl. If all the rolls were laid out end to end they'd stretch for 7 kilometres!

JR - Women Are Heroes - Paris, by closeencounters on Sept 30, 2009 19:30:57 GMT 1, wow, what an incredible project! i was in the greek street space a couple of months back and they were showing the film made when JR was in Brazil i think it was, it was one of the most impressive films i've seen this year. tight editing, brilliant camera work and a beautiful sound track too - if you haven't seen it i think you can see it through his sight and it's well worth a watch!

Asfalt left me at 3 am to go pasting with JR till morning ! There were about 20 of them everyday to paste up those 7 kilometers of paper ! the result is very impressive, even though my taste goes to JR's whole faces or bodies rather than only Eyes close-ups...

Seeing this go up I can't help but think something like this would never get the go ahead in England. There would be no end of moaners, objections and health and safety issues.
I do hope to be proven wrong however....

Will post some pics at the weekend if I can get my head round it.
Took some photos in the museum too where they've reassembled a shack with pictures of kids all over it.
The best paste up for me was a massive naked pregnant girl on her side.
An awesome image and best viewed from a boat.
If you get the chance to go and see this you won't regret it.

It's been a fantastic and surreal experience.
All the hard work JR and his team have done to do this exhibition in record time and litterally cover all the bridges of the Ile Saint Louis is amazing.
They have used 7 kilometers of paste ups.
There are no words to describe how magnificient it is and the scale of it.
I almost felt like one of the Slinkachu figures within JR's world.
Here are some of the pics I took, but you will need to see it in person.
