Nick Walker "Corancan" Street Art in Paris, by Sohoria on Mar 19, 2010 1:00:26 GMT 1, would like to think rather nw produces work that is just pretty produces art pieces like this.... my understanding would be after recent bans on religious uniform nw dig at government trying to ban hijab as token towards women being surpressed when really there choice like to think...
clever art piece which reminds me of banksy art piece with woman with cooking uniform... beautifully excuted in my opinion and if this is path nw takes in future look forward to politcial satire produces but just m opinion...
growth in producing art pieces people find difficult to understand or view is reason followed nick last few years.... feel hard for any artist to do something like this without people saying trying to jump into banksy ideology but think nick has hit nail on the head with this one and much prefer this style to his recent coat of arms but only my opinion... s

It's above How's this not new direction
It's particularly tense in Paris, they are in between elections and the reaction I would imagine will be interesting and debate to be quite strong on the subject of Banning the Burka!
After months of wrangling,The government are believed to be only days away from ratifying the ban.

Nick Walker "Corancan" Street Art in Paris, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Mar 19, 2010 6:58:46 GMT 1, Okay the theme is a new direction granted.... I am talking about a different type of medium maybe, its a lot of same same. Take Neate for example - his new stuff was a change in direction and was recieved well. On Wooster today C215 just produced a piece which is totally different to what he usually does. I am not having a pop at Nick,I have had Mona S & Vandal on my walls since 2007 i just want to see something different..

Nick's predominantly a stencil artist and I can't see that changing.
What has changed is that he's slowly moving away from using the TMA and vandal themes.
This is a fantastic street piece that will be sure to raise lots of eyebrows in Paris. Fantastic timing, great political satire and very poignant.

Nick Walker "Corancan" Street Art in Paris, by Daniel Silk on Mar 19, 2010 15:42:10 GMT 1, That is the worst, most vile uninteresting piece of street art I've seen (other than the guy sitting on the bog in the other thread) in a really really really long time. Pretty disgusting if you ask me. What was he thinking, that its some how a socially conscious piece about Muslims in France, this would do nothing but offend Muslims in France, or is that what he's trying to do?
Your post from the other thread

What other thread? Silky why the need to regurgitate this utter nonsense and give his misinformed views another airing? Very unnecessary

Nick Walker "Corancan" Street Art in Paris, by Pure Evil on Mar 21, 2010 0:04:00 GMT 1, I think it kicks ass, its funny and it gets attention . There is a big debate about the hijab ban going on in france and in belgium... The police in belgium are even stopping people from wearing mickey mouse masks as an excuse for also hassling muslim women it is getting ridiculous :
" The ban on the hijab comes at a time of rising xenophobia in Western Europe as immigrants, asylum-seekers and visible minorities are increasingly scapegoated for the effects of capitalist irrationality. People of Middle Eastern origin are particularly at risk due to the global imperialist “anti-terror” scare. In the Belgian city of Antwerp, police have dusted off an archaic law banning carnival-goers from wearing masks in order to harass Muslim women who cover their faces in public. “If you put on a Mickey Mouse mask and you start walking around in Antwerp,” asserted police commissioner François Vermeulen, “you will be stopped by the police. It’s that simple. It’s not only women in a burka or a headscarf and a veil” (BBC News, 31 January). But in fact this measure, like the French ban, is aimed at persecuting Muslims, who are seen by the racist guardians of capitalist law and order as enemies within the gates of “Fortress Europe.” State-sponsored anti-immigrant hysteria and Islamophobia are fueling the growth of dangerous far-right organizations across Europe. "

If you are going to use street art to say anything, why not use it to say something....nice one Nick.

Nick Walker "Corancan" Street Art in Paris, by Jef Aerosol on Mar 23, 2010 19:49:19 GMT 1, I just don't get Nick's message... How should this image be interpreted ? I walked past that piece the other day and talked with several people about it and none of them seemed to know what it actually meant ! What does it defend and what does it criticize ? It might look quite offensive or mocking... Is it in favour or against the burka, in favour or against the potential ban ? And that "french cancan" thing only exists in tourist traps like the Moulin Rouge or Lido, it can hardly be considered as a French tradition... I dunno, it's hard to know what to think about this stencil...
