Banksy Street Art • Haring Dog, by Rsyok on Oct 12, 2010 15:16:48 GMT 1, Spot on that J, quite a likeness!. Fragile, draw something on the board like "Wish you were back here" so it gets on the news. I may try and recreate it on the boards, which are now painted a lovely shade of white. Six people in front of it now, one man is very unhappy he's jumping up and down shouting "No!". Gonna sit here and get drunk until Hell's Half Acre this evening, it's hilarious! Not all bad at least your entertained, nice Hols ?

I notice he (im sure he was in the original Village People) has got rather a lot of white paint on his romper suit! and those slippers would make for a quick getaway, wonder if it is???. Did he become agitated or potentially threatening at all Fragile?.

Invader must use some kind of Martian Glue that makes it impossible to remove, based on the number of intact old pieces still left in various places around the globe. You can see where various peeps have tried to peel em off, but only got a quarter of one square that broke off !
If you try and remove it, no doubt will b*gger it up, best left intact for all to admire

Banksy Street Art • Haring Dog, by romanywg on Oct 12, 2010 20:05:44 GMT 1, Gee, I just made it in time. That is just too bad. There was an amazing amount of photographers about at 7.30 this morning though. One sweet girl asked if it was a Banksy and when I said it was she literally jumped up in the air and said 'We are so lucky to have a Banksy in the area'. Not so happy now I bet.

As much as it hurts to say, Someone NEEDS to do this before that old guy or someone else trys to sell it.
Im so over people covering them up or trying to remove them. 'Street art' is supposed to get painted over and or wrecked and faded away.
Everyones just trying to cash in on this banksy 'trend'.

I'm at the point of hoping someone like Robbo gets to these and defaces them before these opportunists take them away.

Banksy Street Art • Haring Dog, by v3rm33r on Oct 13, 2010 8:19:17 GMT 1, Literally a stones throw away from our old flat on Tower Bridge Road, sadly won't get to see it as we now live in the country! Team Robbo (as was the wall owner) were very slow with this one and am surprised it has lasted as long as it has. Real shame it has not been covered with perspex rather than wood, at least people could still enjoy it if so.

Banksy Street Art • Haring Dog, by ozlala on Oct 15, 2010 10:38:24 GMT 1, Hello there,
I just want to add to this thread, as I own the building on Grange Road.
Firstly, let me start by saying that I have the greatest respect for Banksy, being an artist myself and feel a huge sense of responsibility that he has chosen my wall.
In order to preserve his work, I had to act quickly to save it from ruin and from the local authority removing it, as they have done in the past.
I am motivated to protect it so that both this and future generations are able to enjoy it in the same form as it was created. We need people like Banksy to have freedom of expression through art.
To that end, we will endeavour to facilitate making it available to the public as soon as possible without the threat of further ruin or removal. I am in the fortunate position to be able to offer this to the public in my upcoming art gallery, which is due to be built on the site, and we will do our utmost to safeguard it until then.
In our view, the best way to honour Banksy will be by preserving his work in the original form, so that future generations can enjoy it as much as we can now.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me on:
joe@ozlala.com
Many thanks
Ozlala

Banksy Street Art • Haring Dog, by Daniel Silk on Oct 15, 2010 12:31:06 GMT 1, I think it would be great if this piece can be preserved and remain on display in its current location with some sort of protection that doesn't spoil it. I don't think the way some pieces have just been cover in perspex really works so hope this one gets protected in a more imaginative and in keeping way.

I'd prefer to see it tagged or removed than behind wood or perspex.
Im with Fragile here, its grafitti not the Mona Lisa that requires your protection, nor does it need to be saved for the nation. It should be left to the elements and for people to enjoy not hidden away.

Banksy Street Art • Haring Dog, by Guest on Oct 15, 2010 13:29:49 GMT 1, Totally agree with Fragile. Worse thing that could of happened to this piece. So it's now boarded up and no one can see it, genius. it's far better to see the work tagged or even painted over than protected under perspex or wooden boards, and possibly end up for sale on eBay or bankrobber. Vermin (COA) obviously.

I can't help feeling that Mr Ozlala's supposed honourable intentions for "future generations" are more about PR for his new "gallery" and the chance to cash in and sell the piece once he's had his fifteen minutes.
