Mr Brainwash "KISS THE BEATLES" Prints, by raiden on Oct 16, 2010 5:27:50 GMT 1, Now that silky has changed the forum design again, I'll start posting again...
Freerange...
what the fact that he was the only one to sell an item at more than the asking price
Setting aside the fact Dreweatts totally mislead in their description on Lot 35 - as its not a "complete set" since its missing Gold & Silver - who cares?
5 sold out of 26 is an abysmal showing and one of those 5 sales was for a paltry £130. Sure one sold above estimate, but it was wrongly listed and had a significant element of original hand embellishment.
---
Snausages...
Stop laughing dude!
Two MBW canvases sold for MAD MONEY today at phillips de pury.
Over 100 thousand us dollars!
You better buy these prints quick!
That is a very, very poor reason to buy MBW prints.
Didn't everyone learn from the Mona Simpson result of Nick Walkers a couple years back? Sent his market in a tizzy only for it to settle into what its at now.
But I personally wouldn't blindly trust MBW auction result - as his market is still heavily manipulated. And I particularly wouldn't trust auction results with provenance of "Acquired directly from the artist." Especially when the results come 4 days following an terrible auction results.
Now imagine if Phillips de Pury lot 233 "Einstein 2010" 162.6 cm X 122 cm failed to sell when the low estimate was £15,000 and Lot 232 "Kate Moss" 106 cm X 106 cm failed to sell when the low estimate was £7,000....
His career could be over - particularly as comparable work at his 2008 1st show was priced at $20K+
If I was his gallerist, I would bid £75,650 for "Einstein 2010" too... Assuming Phillips takes 15% commission, at a cost to Thierry of £11K, you establish decent auction results and save the guy's career. (great, he'll recoup that with this print release)
And hasn't MBW and his teams track record taught anyone anything?
And at this point, MBW has produced a ball park number of 20k prints possibly? He flooded the print market to such a degree with such hyper speculative flipping that he's done respectable job of crashing the entire market for all artists.
So even taking those results at face value (which is a big if), remember that original Dali's sell for millions at auction, yet Dali's prints sell for only hundreds - because he flooded his market.

I feel this was the point of the whole "thing." I could care less for his work, but in many ways, I applaud it's result.

(ah man, I lost the plot a little there, subtlety never was my strongest point)
