IS KAWS RELEVANT IN THE STREET?, by stringerbell on Sept 21, 2010 19:42:44 GMT 1, I was just looking at all the wonderful vids of KAWS defacing Bus Stop Shelters in the late 90's. Forgive me if I am wrong but for the last 20 years, has he moved away from that genre busting thing to being the 'Geppetto of the Disneyfication of Urban art'?

His gallery work is on a whole different level. We will probably be asking the same thing about Banksy in 10 years. Many we like here have done the same, just a lot quicker. Faile and Neate are 2 of he best examples, plus then we have the artists who only do street work to promote a show

His gallery work is on a whole different level to his Bus Stop Ad Disruptions? I think we agree on that, but not in a good way.
His Bus Stops are waaay superior to the Spongebob, Pinocchio, Smurfs fine art. But that work was done in 1997-99.
Still, horses for courses I suppose....

Sorry I didnt really put my point across very well. I love the ad-disruptions and if I had the chance would take one over a gallery piece any day. But I think the gallery work is amazing and is necessary to take him to the next level.
As I said before, Neate did it already and so are faile... Banksy is the next I guess. Will or has it changed there relevance ?
