Ron English ๐บ๐ธ Popaganda โข Pop Culture โข Toys, by Guest on Apr 25, 2008 22:18:47 GMT 1, i think its great value, i mean its a 36 screen screenprint, think how much time and effort went into making each one
Thanks Graham. 160 sheets, 36 colors, 5800 sheets hand-pulled over a period of 2 months, and Katherine spent 2 months on top of this drawing and working with the separations... I don't think anyone can understand what we went through in resolving this edition.
This isn't an Adobe Illustrator separating job... This is true talent and skill. There was over 70 years of printing experience working on this job... I am confident that you won't see anything like this coming from anyone but JetSet Graffiti.

I think Kennards 'Haywain' pushed a few boundries at the time.

But, just to throw in a different opinion, I think it's just about the last thing I would ever want to put on my wall. I can appreciate why a lot of people like it, it's a strong image with good colour and there is no doubt Ron English is very talented but the subject matter does nothing for me at all.

Ron English ๐บ๐ธ Popaganda โข Pop Culture โข Toys, by alsbabar on Apr 25, 2008 23:44:40 GMT 1, thats the beauty of art spirit, its subjective and its good to get a different slant on it. I would say hold fire till you see the Ron and Adam show, if you get the chance, then see how you feel after. As you know, most art is more impactful when seen in the flesh, and I can assure you none of Ron's work is an exception.
From talking to Ron's people throughout, I will say, he has put a lot of effort into this print, and to all who were lucky enough, they will feel privileged to own it.

"$120 postage!!!!! In the late seventies/early eighties, in the UK, some peope used to sniff glue...Bostik was popular...
Has this craze just hit the US???
Or are you just taking the piss...?
S'funny - everytime I feel I'm getting bum raped when trying to buy a piece - I think less of the artist and the people they work with.
How do you feel..?
$120 to roll up a piece of paper and put it in a fucking tube... Fuck off!"

I totally hear what you are saying about seeing things the flesh - I don't doubt the impact of this piece at all - the web image is actually quite good and the print will be even better. But the subject matter won't change in the flesh will it? - and that's what bothers me about this piece - hopefully there wil be some others at the show that I like. If I had the money for a hand finished one of these today I would have just blown it on Denning.

Probably shouldn't ask as love it but can't afford it (esp. knowing there is no room on the wall).

Or are there more differences that I couldn't see?
each txt is different, also each print has a handwritten message on the back

Ron English ๐บ๐ธ Popaganda โข Pop Culture โข Toys, by Guest on Apr 26, 2008 6:14:31 GMT 1, good stuff, that could be your market niche ... pushing the boundries of screenprinting
That has always been my style. I am only content working at the highest level possible. We will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in contemporary printmaking; not only in Silkscreen, but in many other media.
You will begin to see releases from us with some very desirable artist's working in many different mediums, including Lithography, Etching, Intaglio, Holographic Media, etc... One thing I can promise you won't see is boring repetitive work made for market. You will see us work with each artist to develop projects which fulfill their creative goals for multiple format work.
One of our goals is to make art for history, not necessarily for market... 50 years from now, no one is going to say shit about paying $120 for "shipping and handling". However, I suspect that they will be discussing the solid provenance that is attached to such a rare print, via the process DVD, Production Notes in Studio Binder, and Certificates of Authenticity... Remember, these materials are as limited as the prints themselves.
I would encourage everyone to go to the show next week and enjoy yourselves. Paul has put together an incredible presentation with the artist's. It's a real treat for London to have such talent together on view.

Ron English ๐บ๐ธ Popaganda โข Pop Culture โข Toys, by Guest on Apr 26, 2008 6:26:27 GMT 1, I am confident that you won't see anything like this coming from anyone but JetSet Graffiti. Obviously not heard of BRP! I am very familiar with Black Rat Press. They have taken advantage of a wonderfully vibrant market in England, and Kudos to them! They are putting out some really fantastic work with some great talent... There are only a few studios in the world that would be able to handle a project like this... The studio that Ron and I chose for this project has been renowned for making the top quality silkscreen prints for the past 30 years. They are responsible for Banksy's LA series, as well as a lot of Shepard Fairey's extensive portfolio of silkscreen work. They have worked with everyone from Rauschenberg to Ruscha, Yamagata, and are currently producing a print for Sona at Murakami's studio. I believe it's logical to think that a studio with this portfolio of work is well-qualified . I am not making any comparisons here. It's a matter of fact.
