Fake Banksy prints sold on internet by Coventry fraudster
A man from Coventry has admitted selling fake Banksy prints over the internet.
Robert McGarry claimed prints he had bought at Wellesbourne Market were genuine limited editions by the world famous graffiti artist and sold them for thousands of pounds.
The 27-year-old, of Mary Herbert Street, Cheylesmore, pleaded guilty at Coventry Crown Court yesterday to four counts of fraud by making false representation. He was granted bail and will be sentenced later this month.
The court heard McGarry put the prints up for sale on internet auction site eBay and enhanced their provenance to make them more attractive to would-be buyers by providing forged certificates of authenticity.
McGarry sold Barcode for £7,100 to a doctor in December 2007, Girl With Balloon for £1,515 in January 2008, Love Rat for £842 in June 2008 and B&W Trolley Hunters for £1,700 in August 2008.
Recorder Michael Burrows QC adjourned the hearing until Monday, October 25 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Was an obvious fake, he was blindstamping them, the blindstamp was the only thing that looked good though! Paper wrong and image not correct either

Hope this f**ker gets locked up - no doubt though, he would get a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again - thats the state of this s**tty country we live in
G-Man write a letter to the judge - stating your views as a victim, who knows maybe a miracle might happen and they make an example of this f**ker.
