Agreed - you would have thought they would be able to sell to a client "discretely" as works dont comew up often rather than the item to be sold onto the "secondary market"?
I suppose it is there only artist

adam neate-original elms/gallery piece, by tc on Feb 1, 2011 10:48:19 GMT 1, There is a lot more to a gallery than just having a great space and some amazing artists. It is a business like anyone other, based on common economics and forward planning. They have neither.
If you check the website Phil Frost and Ron English have both jumped ship. Jose Parla albeit still on the website has followed suit. It is a great shame.
Regardless, this painting is a beautiful work and is priced extremely well... Good luck with the sale

It's a shame if that's the case, Elm's put in many years supporting artists and this culture loooong before it became popular. He has a great eye for art and artists and I'm sure he'll bounce back with some new discoveries. Maybe this is for the best. I think they handled Adam's career really badly, his gallery prices were ridiculous considering how little he'd shown, from $500 to $50 000 in a couple of years. Completely unsustainable. He should have nurtured and built Adam's career over the long term instead of overselling to wealthy clients and cutting off entry level fans. Easy to see in retrospect maybe, but this was one bubble you could see was sure to burst. Just hope it hasn't disillusioned Adam from continuing to develop his art. Who knows, maybe he made enough and is set for life..hope so..

in what context exactly was this said please?
i'm sure any gallerist worth their salt would, at the very least, try and place such a piece - it's in their direct interest to try and protect secondary values of their represented artists, i find it hard to believe Paul would be so dismissive of this piece.......
