Micallef GIRD, by jaymajik on Nov 28, 2010 10:13:49 GMT 1, The print (framed) was in the Dreweatts auction on 13 October with an estimate of 2000-2500 and failed to sell. The bidding stopped at either 1300 or 1400. I know because I was bidding on it . I was told it sold just after the auction. A Bomber Girl sold in the same auction for about ยฃ700 and a Minotaur Weapon for about the same.
The canvas (different image) sold in the dreweatts auction the following week for 11k.
On the basis of the auction (taking into account buyers premium etc) would say around 2k.

Can't disagree with this.
Great mission statement for them ;D

Micallef GIRD, by manty on Nov 28, 2010 14:32:50 GMT 1, Having said the above. It still amazes me that any of the auction houses take this 'urban' stuff in to begin with.
The Bonhams auction in 2007 kicked it all off and was the high/low-light, and with out doubt the exception to the rule in our arty stuff
As an example, I thought I could pick the Moona up for around ยฃ3k it fucking massive at about 8' x 4' and it would have looked cool on the wall, all excited I was. It went for something like ยฃ50k, and after this prices went a bit North.
Auction house wise its been a downhill slope since then.

Micallef GIRD, by Wearology on Nov 28, 2010 15:09:59 GMT 1, I brought in a piece of street / urban art to Bonhams in New York to try and see what type of value it may have. The appraisor and I started talking about Banksy and her response was "we tried that street / graffiti stuff but it was not a financial success for us". By her snooty response I had a feeling they were done with the Nick Walker's, DFACE's & Micallef's of the world.

I am surprised they took them in the first place, and because people submitted the items before some of the artists were out of nappies, their careers were fucked before they had a chance

He's no longer in the business, if my memory serves me right (which we both know sometimes it does not) he is pursuing his own artistic career.

Give it about 15 years. An Art movement needs a little room to breath.
