Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by boaty on Mar 1, 2010 22:32:13 GMT 1, I have contacted the people who PM'D me about the MBW poster. I have several people on a waiting list as I intend on going back tomorrow to the show. If u have not heard back from me please send me another PM as I was surprisingly flooded with PM'S - thx, Jon as for FREERANGE I already have your address and I am sending you 1 even if u don't want it - remember we are at Peace and buried the hatchet -
What a nice gesture Wearology. I'll try to swing by the show again this week and pick some up as well to help out.
Had I known there would be interest, there was an opportunity to get more than one pack of postcards at the opening, but I didn't think anyone would want them on here (and I'm not the greedy sort so I just took one)....lesson learned! But I'll ask around to see if I can land some. More to come......

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by goaty on Mar 1, 2010 22:48:08 GMT 1, but he does have the throne of artist who popularized street art and brought it to the level of both mainstream and gallery owner acceptability. That's not a throne you can usurp. I'd have to say that the above mentioned throne of which you speak belongs to this guy:
Or this guy...

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by Wearology on Mar 2, 2010 3:01:29 GMT 1, American's probably make up about 5% of our forum. Many people in the U.S. know who Keith Haring is because he has an app. on their phone not because he was a pioneer in the street art movement. Also American's know Basquiat because his name was used in the title of a movie not because of his art. It seems that everyone knows Warhol and many people are hearing the name Koons recently because he has been buying up 20 million dollar apartments in New York like they were tic tacs. Faile , Swoon are popular in Brooklyn and nobody has any clue who MBW is - just my 2 cents but what do I know Banksy image done by MBW

You could be on to the reason why these artists were considered for being "rivals" to Banksy's throne? Banksy has been successful in getting the attention of not just other artists and collectors but "normal everyday" people. Is it safe to say that 2/3 people in England know Banksy's artworks? Banksy is a common house hold name courtesy of his artworks and media coverage. Perhaps the artists mentioned as being "rivals" had something to do with the fact that they are getting the attention of the general public as well as a strong public fan base. I interpreted the article to be saying that these artists have been getting the general public's attention and interested in their artworks. In an age where internet can broadcast and inform people around the world about the most recent artworks and exhibitions artists like ABOVE, BRAINWASH, and ROA have all been successful in making a lot of artworks and media coverage this past year.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Mar 3, 2010 9:05:42 GMT 1, There is no need to hype the works of Above, Brainwash, or Roa. I will say that I do have my opinions as to what works I and many others find appealing. It's obvious that Banksy's works are easily digestible and understood as is the same the artists mentioned. ABOVE, BRAINWASH and ROA have each made a lot of attention in the media and "street art" arena's this past year. I don't once claim to know everything so maybe I'm misunderstood? I just know what I've seen from the street works and gallery shows!

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Mar 3, 2010 20:50:57 GMT 1, There is obviously no need to say that my involvement in this and other forums is to inform members of new print releases from Above. Just because I work for him doesn't mean I also enjoy or agree with all of his artworks. His arrows were clever but I find his more recent stencil and installation works tied into them to be the most powerful. In the process of posting and being a member of this forum I have read and learned a lot about the other artists that are here as well. I am still learning more and I just found this article interesting as the artist mentioned in it all had quite an impressive year. While your comments about Above's artworks are what they are it does seem that regardless your negative view on his or BRAINWASH/ ROA's artworks that they all have been getting more of the mainstream attention.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Mar 4, 2010 0:46:48 GMT 1, That was true about my emotions getting the best of me with Above's homeless not hopeless project. It was something pure and attentive to the streets and the people that live in them. Being that he is a street artist and it dealt with issues that many don't acknowledge or ignore. I felt somewhat surprised nobody was talking about it on the forum that's all. Perhaps was out of place because this is a forum mostly about Banksy and other artists prints so social issues didn't seem to be the correct time or place for it?! It's a learning curve and It's okay because the edition of 100 sold out and Above donated 100% of the profits so I suppose either way that issue was accomplished. ;D

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by boaty on Mar 4, 2010 1:08:38 GMT 1, I bought Above's Homeless not Hopeless print, given it was for a worthwhile charity - and because I know an older marine vet, who looked similar to the guy in the picture, who is a successful investment banker. So, I gave it to him as a gift and reminder not to be so darn obnoxious all the time. It's hanging in his office now with a sign next to it that says Hopeless not Homeless w/ an arrow pointing to his desk.
