Choe opening on the 28th at Laz
"Unknown Artist's" private viewing on the 28th
...and maybe the best of all 3 shows:
Saber at UpperPlayground opening on the 29th! Saber will be in the new shop/gallery space for an all day painting session, and show opening in the evening.
Saber will be arriving today or tomorrow, so don't be surprised to see some of his work out on the street as well... Who knows what he'll destroy next!
He's been busy in the studio over the past few weeks; preparing work for this show and putting the finishing touches on his new silkscreen, an 8 color, hand separated masterpiece of LA wildstyle!!!
His print is going to have gold and silver leaf elements, and a bunch of other special effect techniques, maybe even some flocking, who knows?!?! Expect to see some of his typical LA flava with thick to thin lines, crosses, nice sharp flow, etc... The piece should end up being around 30" x 50", so it's a large one.
Edition of only 50.
He'll be releasing it this weekend at UpperPlayground.
PM me if anyone is interested in the Saber piece... I believe the Upper Playground price is $1000 USD. I'll have final pictures of the edition in a day or so.

Whilst I like some of Saber's work and can appreciate the man-hours and production costs that went into these prints, they have been priced too bullishly.
I am happy to be proved wrong but, all things considered, I believe Saber's market has yet to reach the level of $600 plus p+p per print for this sort of edition size.

It is four times the size of a regular print so look at it like that and its $150 per regular size print and for a 10 layer screen print thats a good price

They are also the exclusive retailer of this print in the UK...
Interesting discussion about Saber's market. Believe me, he is moving into the fine art world at a rapid clip here in the USA. The England show might be another break-out moment. He's really working hard to bridge the gap between Graffiti/Street Art and Fine Art...

I wonder why people stlll have that hesitation towards Graffiti writers moving into the Fine Art world. We've seen McGee, Parla, KAWS, and a bunch of others follow a similar trajectory. The list goes on and on with all of these legendary writers.
I'm of the opinion that an early career as a graffiti writer makes for great preparation for what's going on currently. As Saber was saying in that video, alot of kids straight out of art school are putting street-artist on their resume, and they don't really know what that means, or have the experience to back it up.
When you are 50 ft. above a freeway, and there are hundreds of cars watching you every minute, and every one of those cars has a cell phone to call the authorities, you better make some really solid choices with your art, and you better make them quick... The art-school nerd, or the studio artist hasn't ever faced that kind of pressure or those type of consequences. You fail, you're DONE...
That's what makes guys like Saber special in a way that transcends any of the market driven bullshit that people talk about. $600 for a print like this, from a legend like Saber is peanuts!!!

It is massive and the print goes right to the edge of the paper. The only thing I didn't like was the signature was very blurry and hard to see here it was signed. Top Notch Print though! Afraid to see the cost of a frame for it!
