Mainly New York gallery and dealer circles and did plenty of schmoozing and it's how the art world works . It's a business and who you know. So if I copied Lichtensteins art that he copied from comics. Who would I be copying? Dface

I think that was part of the theory of the movement - to take "non-art" images we see everyday, and make them into "art"
I think part of the appeal of Lichtenstein WAS that he copied these images, seen in everyday life, and transformed them into 'art"

I'm surprised so many don't understand the theory behind it.

do you mean like Duchamp?
When Lichtenstein did it, this was during the 60's and it was all a new thing and a way of getting cheap publicity and as they say make a name using whatever publicity you can and then people will buy the art.
His own style did try to re interpret Matisse and Picasso etc in his re working of comic art graphic type of art.
Warhol and Lichtenstein was decades ago and they were part of that hype.
Today with Banksy doing Kate Mosh and Brainwash with his derivative Marilyns etc and other artists is just copying Warhol's etc art as opposed to Warhol etc creating art from nothing.

david barsalou's (who"?) work is literal.
pop art is never literal.

Roy Lichtenstein ๐บ๐ธ Pop Art โข Whaam โข Print For Sale, by ashrx on Feb 26, 2015 10:52:58 GMT 1, I'm wondering if any of you knowledgeable art lot can help with some info on Lichtenstein. I'd really like a hand signed Lichtenstein print. There seems to be loads of stuff about on ebay but prices are REALLY varied and I don't really know what i'm buying etc. I want a screen print thats not an open Ed or of 3000 etc. Anyone know a good source to buy from or any info on what to look for?
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROY-LICHTENSTEIN-M-Maybe-MATTED-PLATE-SIGNED-/281610786619?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41914f973b
This is the sort of style i'm after but not necessarily this piece?
Thanks,

If you read the fine print this is a "photo" of the original, in other words worthless. Might as well print your own.

Most Lichtenstein prints were lithographed, signed and numbered, and can be found on a number of online galleries. Just make sure it's a trustworty gallery - loads of fakes out there, and there's no agency left to authenticate them
www.artnet.com is a good place to start
