new iamdoom canvasses, by iamdoom on Jan 8, 2009 14:13:52 GMT 1, 2 new canvasses i did a couple of days ago... both are multi-layer stencil+spraypaint pieces on 60x40cm canvas...
sorry for the crappy low lighting picture quality but i guess you'll get the general idea
the sortof murakami inspired 'sheepman'...
'your tag here'... i'm not to crazy about the type in this one though...
(usefull) feedback welcome!!
cheers, iad

new iamdoom canvasses, by howler on Jan 10, 2009 11:23:54 GMT 1, I don't get your Murakami referance, unless it's just the positioning of the hands, so all I see is another piece seemingly condemning anyone who wears a hoody. Street art used to stick up for the disspossed and disenfranchised in society but it now seems to be increasingly aimed at those who would rather condemn for no better reason than it's a popular media image of the moment. I thought it was bad when the type of people that read the Daily Mail started collecting but now we seem to have artists who want to appeal to this demographic as well. I'm not a sheep because I wear hooded tops I've been doing it for many more years than it's been fashionable to blame the ills of society on a sweatshirt but for the past 2-3 years I have noticed an increasingly hostile attitude being taken towards me when I'm wearing one and can only conclude it's down to the constant media barrage and attitude that makes this type of thing not only acceptable but from the above comments welcome.
Neale, think it was Eelus but yes been there seen that.

new iamdoom canvasses, by iamdoom on Jan 11, 2009 3:22:23 GMT 1, neale... haha! sorry but imho "he/she did that already" comments are a sign of narrow vision and thus just plain stupid (nothing personal and no offence intended!)... i actually found out about the eelus after i finished the design for this... so eventhough eelus used a similar gesture (which he didnt invent btw) the piece is still my work and therefore i cant realy give a crap if someone has covered it already... sorry
howler... the handsign? are you serious? it says 'iad' short for 'iamdoom'... bit of immagination please... did you even ever read murakami? and uh... do you often start rants on mere ill-informed assumptions? next time maybe try and get some background info before you post comments like that... maybe you'll sound less like an ass if the b**ching has some foundation eh...

new iamdoom canvasses, by howler on Jan 11, 2009 10:40:40 GMT 1, I think you might find that calling people narrow minded and stupid is both personal and does indeed intend offence.
Now too your rant at me "did you even ever read murakami?", no why would I ? I follow and collect street art and graffiti, owning an LV Child doesn't mean I admire the Louis Vuitton label so what interest would I have in their designer, errrr none in fact less than that, all his work for them does IMO is cheapen anything else he does.
"and uh... do you often start rants on mere ill-informed assumptions?" You've posted your work on an ART forum, ART is open to interpretation what I gave was MY interpretation now that may not be the message you intend but as you say I'd need to be a Louis Vuitton fan to really appreciate the message and as a fan of graffiti I'm not.
"next time maybe try and get some background info before you post comments like that." Why ? I've said what the piece says to me maybe you should try a bit of anger management and instead of throwing insults at potential customers if you consider that your work has been misinterpreted then offer some explanation instead of gross arrogance. Oh and in the spirit of giving background I'm in the U.K. so that would be arse not ass
"maybe you'll sound less like an ass if the b**ching has some foundation eh... " As already stated MY interpretation and if you read my post my feelings are based in a foundation of fact based on the deteriorating attitude shown to people who wear hoods. Maybe if you develop a bit of decorum and respond to criticism in an intellectual fashion instead of just throwing insults at anyone who doesn't immediately agree with you then "you'll sound less like an ass"
Oh but look you only want "(usefull) feedback " so crititcism isn't usefull ? or do you mean you only want nice fluffy comments on your work ?
And one last thing tagging a little smilie on the end of a load of insults doesn't make it witty or show you're just having a banter it just makes you look juvenile.

new iamdoom canvasses, by iamdoom on Jan 11, 2009 13:42:09 GMT 1, i started on a huge comment but i can't be arsed to start a huge discussion realy... nothing good ever comes from forum discussions
i do realise i was in a bit of a nasty mood and therefore my choise of words came out a bit to harsh. so hereby my appologies to neale... i don't think you are stupid do still think "already been done" comments are a bit useless since everything has been done already if you look hard enough. they're also a bit, well, hypocritical since copying images or whole styles seems to be generally accepted if done by the right (famous/hyped enough) artist... but... just so you know... the design was done before i knew about the eelus print so it's still my work and feels like it to me and therefor i don't care about having used a similar pose as eelus.
to howler... the murakami thing i misinterpreted, thought you meant you knew the guy but still didn't get the referance (which is a personal one btw and adds no real meaning to the piece itself)... the referance should be pretty obvious if you know murakamis work so hence the "did you actually read it" part... as for the rest of your comment... i do get what you're trying to say and agree with you on some points, disagree on others. i think the thing that set me off was the tone of your comment... to me it felt like you presented your interpretation as the truth (atleast to you), it's not formulated in an open way, there's not one questionmark in your post... and with that it felt to me like you put me in a box with the lame "in it for the cash" street"artists" before even knowing what i'm about... and that pissed me off... damn ego eh but i myself classified you as a bitchy stuck up 'art-critic' so i can't realy stay pissed off when i'm doing the same thing myself right
the "Oh and in the spirit of giving background I'm in the U.K. so that would be arse not ass" was great! respect for that one...
i do appreciate critcism but interpretations don't count as real critisicm to me, or atleast they are of no real practical use to me... yet, maybe in the future i will see their use... feedback i'm looking for is feeback on the image itself. something like, your choise of colors is all wrong, this or that part should be looked at again even telling me the image sucks and you don't like it would do.
but since internet is pretty impersonal, has less nuances and is much more open to personal interretation than an actual irl conversation i will not take this discussion any further...
anyway... no disrespect meant...
