Art-el Gallery News - Rowdy, Vermin, Pedro Matos +, by Art-el on Dec 2, 2010 9:25:41 GMT 1, Welcome to the latest Art-el newsletter.
It seems premature, but with the prevailing arctic conditions, and this likely to be the last news letter of 2010, it seems appropriate to wish all our customers and artists a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year.
We have a fair chunk of exciting news to share, so lets get straight onto the first segment.
Rowdy Returns
www.art-el.co.uk/collections/rowdy
We are delighted to welcome West Country legend, Rowdy back to these shores and to Art-el where there is new work available to purchase. As most of you probably know by now, back in the summer Rowdy's home and studio were burnt to the ground and he was left with nothing but the clothes on his back and his pushbike, EVERYTHING else was lost to the flames.
After some time out and a period of reflection it's fantastic to be able to bring you some new and original work.
Here is what he had to say to the guys at Steal From Work recently, about this new work:
"Once I got back on it after the fire, I began to produce work whilst I was wandering around Europe, often working out of the back of the van, sometimes up a mountain, on a cliff edge or in a quarry. As a result my new pieces have taken on a transient quality, for example, what may have started on a rooftop in Barcelona could only be completed at a gate crashed artist residency near Turin".
Introducing Sliks
www.art-el.co.uk/collections/sliks
We also introduce a new artist to the site in the form of Brazilian, Rafael Maciel a.k.a Sliks. Born and living in Sao Paulo, his unique style is now spreading across the globe.
In his work, he rejects logical conceptions and attaches himself into the unconscious as a source of inspiration. He says, "I am always searching for new materials and techniques that help me to express my world in my art, representing a mystical nature, mixing reality with fantasy in simple landscapes and making us believe in a disturbed quotidian, as can be found in big cities". We have five new and original canvases available for purchase.
New Pedro Matos Sketches
www.art-el.co.uk/collections/pedro-matos
Another artist still creating quite a stir with collectors and curators in Europe and the US is Pedro Matos, and we are pleased to announce the availability of two new, graphite on paper preparatory drawings.
His work continues to be much in demand and he has recently been exhibited at the Thinkspace Gallery's 5 year anniversary show in LA, with his submission selling on the opening night.
He will also have work featured in the prestigious Ralph Lauren 'Art Stars' exhibition and auction at Philips de Pury on the 6th December and also at Miami Art Basel, hosted by the White Walls Gallery, San Francisco, who are also showing his work in their winter group show alongside Shepard Fairey, Blek Le Rat, Clayton Brothers and many others.
Dale 'VN' Marshall News
www.art-el.co.uk/collections/vermin A huge shout to say thank you to everyone who helped to make Dale 'VN' Marshall's first solo show the massive success that it was. Room 101, received a staggering amount of interest from both collectors, press and public and all 101 canvases sold out within an hour of the exhibition opening. This is a phenomenal success for an artist holding his first solo show, with over 2000 people visiting to experience the amazing body of work and site specific installations, highlighting the artists ongoing battle with mental illness.
He is currently working on a new direction and body of work which promises to be even more exciting.
Since Room 101, Dale has had the prestige of producing the latest 'Don't Panic' poster, titled "YOUTH', which is now available from them in a A2 sized, limited edition of both signed and unsigned (cost currently ยฃ28.50 & ยฃ9.50). They can be purchased direct from Don't Panic
www.dontpaniconline.com/shop/posters/2279.
Even more prestigious, is his invitation to exhibit seven new canvases at the Anno Domini Gallery, California as part of their yearly exhibition 'Fresh Produce' that highlights the work of exciting new and upcoming artists.
It is another fantastic step for Dale, especially when you consider that the 'Fresh Produce' concept is now nearly a decade old and responsible for launching the careers of many well-known artists. All the work in the show is very generously priced at under $250.
The fact that Dale is the only representative from the UK speaks volumes for the upwards curve that he is currently climbing.
Mr Jago in Miami
Another piece of news to look out for on the 'interscope' is Mr Jago, who is currently in Miami with Contra Projects, painting a huge wall in calloboration with some amazing artists including Ron English, Tristan Eaton, D*Face, Dalek, Thomas Thewes, Bask, Tes-One and a number of other. We are eagerly anticipating pictures of it all coming together.
Christmas Gifts Don't forget that if you are stuck for an original present for a friend, family or loved one, or you have some christmas cash to spend following the event, we do have prints for sale under ยฃ50, from artists Andy Council, Richt and Boswell and there are still Room 101 books available (both signed and unsigned).
