Help Needed - Problems Shipping to Spain Advice, by Greekboy on Jan 14, 2011 13:59:30 GMT 1, Looking for advice as I've run into a situation which I have never encountered before. All my years of selling on Ebay and more recently selling/trading on the forums I have never run into a situation like this before.
I sold my David Choe City Girl and Driving Home Alone prints to a fellow forum member in Spain. I shipped the prints the day after receiving payment with USPS International Express Mail with a guaranteed delivery date of December 29th, 2010.
The package has been stuck in Spanish Customs since December 29th. Is this normal for packages to be stuck in Customs for so long? I contacted the USPS about the matter and finally was given a phone number to call for Spanish Customs. Since I do not know any Spanish, I sent this phone number to the buyer in Spain, but he doesn't speak Spanish.
Not sure what to do? The buyer is getting frustrated which is understandable and in no way would I keep the buyer's money if the package does not arrive. It was as is with all of my packages insured.
Any help by any forum members would be greatly appreciated.
If someone could call if all the information (tracking/ customs #'s) I would greatly appreciate it.

Help Needed - Problems Shipping to Spain Advice, by stickitup on Jan 14, 2011 14:11:25 GMT 1, I am in the shipping business of art and Spanish customs are renouned for being a liability in any transportation of art. 1) get the name of the company who transported the goods, 2) get a reason why it has been snagged at customs, from this you can see what the issue is, it may be that they are concerned it is worth a lot of money and are searching for it against a payment of VAT. Did you include a shipping invoice with it? Let me know if you have any questions and I'll see what I can do for you.

Help Needed - Problems Shipping to Spain Advice, by stickitup on Jan 14, 2011 14:14:18 GMT 1, oh and did it go by road? I am assuming Airmail. USPS should be able to provide all the info you need, if they are telling you they can't, question this, as they were dealing on your behalf, you are not a shipping agent, they are

Help Needed - Problems Shipping to Spain Advice, by Brushstrokes 75 on Jan 14, 2011 14:20:56 GMT 1, It happens sometimes. I speak spanish so I can maybe help out to know what the problem is. It can that the parcel got opened not by customs for some reasons and they usually take ages to send it back or complete.
PM me and I'll give them a call!

Help Needed - Problems Shipping to Spain Advice, by Greekboy on Jan 14, 2011 15:43:00 GMT 1, Huge thanks to brushstrokes75 for calling Spain for me. It seems the buyer needs to pay the import fees before the package is released. Thanks to everyone for their help, especially Zim who gets my vote for member of the year!

Help Needed - Problems Shipping to Spain Advice, by Brushstrokes 75 on Jan 14, 2011 15:45:34 GMT 1, No problem mate but for other people sending stuff to Spain. I would add that their customs is a bit different than in most countries.
They usually retain the merchandise until the recipient send them proper documentation (bill, paypal payment.....). They will only have the parcel delivered when eveything is cleared with customs. They don't show at your doorstep asking for money!
