NEW BANKSY 'Queue Jumping Grey' Choose Your Weapon, by St. Art Gallery on Dec 18, 2010 11:00:26 GMT 1, I have been trying to to buy a Banksy print from POW for years now and I have never been able to even refuse one ! I'll be waiting for the "Collectors who have been trying for years to buy a Banksy print, but haven't been able to even refuse a print" edition. I wonder what the size of this edition will be ! I cannot even express how frustrating it is trying for years to buy a print and not even coming close to it. Also very frustrating is never receiving an answer from POW every time when I write them after an other for me disappointing release. They don't even care because otherwise they would answer my e-mails (although I am sure they get a lot of e-mails from people). In my opinion they should answer all e-mails because everyone is a possible customer and without customers they will be out of business. Over the last years I have bought several prints from POW but now I am seriously considering not to buy from them anymore because of the way they tread their customers. Releasing an other edition is no solution. They should really reconsider how they release Banksy prints in the future. I already suggested before everyone interestet should be registering in person with a copy of their ID and overseas buyers can register by e-mail or fax with double ID. This way you can keep track of previous buyers and I think there will be less flipping because it is harder to get your hands on an ID rather than on e-mail adresses or each time join/jump the que. i think we need to be realistic here, no matter what POW do there will always be disappointed people out there. i've missed the online bunfights (and got lucky too), i've entered lotteries, i've queued and in every instance i've been disappointed. this is life, far more people wish to buy than there are prints to go round. i applaud POW for doing something to try and rectify the complete shambles of a queue last week but by having the onus on those who shout loudest getting compensated they've completely alienated a lot of equally disappointed, less vocal buyers. the game is up, too many people are aware of the ability to turn a quick buck and will take the same steps as a true fan would to secure a print how can verifying identity define one from the other? you have to take buyers at face value. one way would be POW to accept card payments only as there were flippers handing out wads of cash to patsy's who had queued on their behalf, not saying that is foolproof but could be one measure to deter widespread abuse. it's been this way since 2006 and is only going to get worse IMHO.
I agree you cannot satisfy everyone and cannot prevent flipping.
What they can do is trying to distribute the prints as fair as possible. That is why I suggested personal registration and a copy of their ID being made. You only register once and they put you on their waitinglist and they work down this list every release. People who have been buying before won't be able to buy at their own name again. Offcourse people will be asking other people to register but because it has to be in person for UK residents or with a double ID for overseas bidders, I think there will be less problems. People know they are on the list and know that sooner of later they will get their Banksy print.
In my opinion this is a fair way of releasing the prints and I would like to hear comments or other suggestions.

NEW BANKSY 'Queue Jumping Grey' Choose Your Weapon, by Nuno on Dec 18, 2010 11:11:34 GMT 1, I don't see the problem with a properly organised overnight queue. I barriers were put up, tickets dished out, 3 or 4 security guys I think it would be fine to distribute a %age in the manor.
Whilst it does favour London based people, I made it from Mid-Wales (over 4 hours). Therefore anyone in Exeter or Manchester would have the same chance. I left afterwork at 5pm and as the next day was a saturday I didnt have to 'drop everything'.

NEW BANKSY 'Queue Jumping Grey' Choose Your Weapon, by robinbanks on Dec 18, 2010 11:54:14 GMT 1, Was it via the lottery or email sent to POW? Could be either...I was spread all over this release...I did opt grey on all lottery chances to maximize chances...
So you entered multiple email addresses in the lottery???
I wouldn't be surprised if you paid for it with fake Di-Faced tenners too.

Agree, it was July 2006 when they released Grannies, then they disappeared in 10 minutes or so. Before that the prints hung around for a while, not just hours but days and months..why?..........mainly because you had to like the image to buy, in those days there was no money to be made so it was all about loving the art. That has all gone now which is such a shame. If it makes anyone feel better I know of an RC bought for £40 (Original cost if I remember back) then stuck on the wall with drawing pins, 4 months later it was dumped in the bin.

Plus everyone is not able to drop everything at a drop of a hat. The only people pro this type of release are those who are able to get down. And it is the same people every year who are able to make it down, with a few exceptions. Without doubt an online release gives MORE fans a better chance of getting a print.
"I never use my initiative, because no-one ever tells me to". ;D
It's all a big game...and there are clues.....and a nice prizes....
I watched and learned from my sofa last year.....shall i go ? oh but what if ? after watching it all unfold on this site....from the 1st pics to the 1st flipped to the 1st framed...
Well I entered the great race this year......for days my s**t was clogging up the hall with "going camping are you ?" dont ask was always my reply !!
I watched as the 1st pics went up and nearly pissed my pants....As soon as fingerz said wiz had phoned and to get himself down there I jumped up and headed off 200 miles to berwick street with my mate...
Berwick st was empty when we rolled up (surreal charley said moment) so whipped the parking ticket (6 minutes we were gone)of the windscreen and headed up to commercial street...

NEW BANKSY 'Queue Jumping Grey' Choose Your Weapon, by Nuno on Dec 18, 2010 16:50:35 GMT 1, You say that but how did you know it was going to happen? You didn't as it wasn't announced until 10pm, and at that time it was already too late. Those who live local it's a fair gamble but those who travel from a far it can be an expensive one. Plus everyone is not able to drop everything at a drop of a hat. The only people pro this type of release are those who are able to get down. And it is the same people every year who are able to make it down, with a few exceptions. Without doubt an online release gives MORE fans a better chance of getting a print. By 4pm on the Friday people on here who work nearby had said that there was xx amount of people in the queue, using the no smoke without fire theory I was happy to take a gamble on something happening. I think the whole trip cost me about £120 (petrol, parking, Food, Severn Toll etc) , but i'd have only gone out that night and pissed most of that up the wall anyway.

NEW BANKSY 'Queue Jumping Grey' Choose Your Weapon, by Daniel Silk on Dec 18, 2010 17:05:33 GMT 1, Yep! nobody really knew what was going on that day, so people just had to make decisions on what info was coming back from people who were on the street in London. Many of the people who eventually got a print probably did so from getting there as soon as they heard at least something was happening, even if they dint really know exactly when or where.
