Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Billy Sport on Dec 12, 2010 0:16:03 GMT 1, just to add to Hlarmys msg, was around 70 in the berwick queue (arrived 6:15pm), surrounded by some really nice people , sundowner,(big thanks Chris for the help with my phone) graffalo, Brian and co. then really weird moment when chatting to Hlarmy and a friend of his, the email dropped regarding the location change and led to a wide scale panic and utter chaos.
I adopted the deer in the headlights stance, thinking that they must release some prints at berwick st. if you imagine the opening of trainspotting but times about 100, people running in the roads to try and get a cab. Met a couple of guys who dont post on here (you know you want to Rob, wenter) and all bundling in a cab, arrive at POW 10:20pm (thanks for reminding me of getting stung with the cab Hlarmy!) , we were around 45 in the queue, after a short period of shall we say fluid movement in the queue, we were 55-60 ( note the raffle tickets we ended up with were in the 80s, so 20+ extra queue jumped from beginning to end , up to us)
Yapsey and a few others regularly counting the queue, plus Dave and a Kiwi guy (apologies for not asking your name) doing a sterling job of keeping this stretch of the queue in relative order.
By 11pm, the queue must have been near 300, why on earth POW hadnt employed anyone just to hand out tickets for 1 hour, job would have been done, they could have gone home and back in the morning to sort things out, should have been as easy as that. that would have sorted out all the issues with the tickets as security got up to 160 and the free for all that occured . Im not sure if its been mentioned but they told us they were going to stop at just past 100, as that was what they had been told to do, quite a few people pointed out that they should reconsider that, as it will all kick off, which they said they would just leave. hence the long delay whilst one of the guys was on the phone across the road to extend to 175.
atmosphere was certainly different from soho, but the 40 or so people around us were in good spirits and a good bunch to hang with. saw a couple of incidents , the drunk guy getting pack attacked , and while i was across the road, someone lobbing a bag of water (or may have been worse) from a window from the flats opposite the queue. this managing to hit a cyclist going past on his head and he was covered from head to toe, little bit later , another bag being thrown on to someones car. I think the cyclist will be going all charles bronson on who was in the flat sometime soon.
met and spent some time with Ross, nice to thank him for the help he has given in the past. met a few other forum members as well.
glad i managed to get one, apparently prints 1-3 were kept and it was from 4-25 (probably why they chose 175 ?). but such a basic snafu that should never have occured, so easy to have organised, i dont think there was a nod and a wink to anyone (why would they then queue in the wrong place, and risk losing their chance of getting a print at another location) to rely on the queue to self regulate was utter madness, we could only see the stretch we were in, couldnt see what was happening round the corner or right down the front, so we were lucky by the sounds of it, to have had a pretty decent bunch around.

what are other's thoughts on the various colourways? for me, having so many diff colours (10+) is actually a bit off putting for the print. i'd prefer 1 or 2 diff versions max, and to leave it at that.

The gold one is cool as a nod to Warhols importance of the gold ones.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by curiousgeorge on Dec 12, 2010 1:27:01 GMT 1, Plenty of embroidery of the truth in this thread (geddit)
Just to point out POW are in NO WAY to blame for humans behaving like animals.I was shocked to see 4 guys attack 1 guy and in the time it took me walk 300 metres or so still people just watched, only when i started pulling the dirty animals off him did someone else step in
4 guys were also said to working for guys at the front, then again a LOT of BS in this thread
Edit. No inside info etc, but i wouldn't be totally surprised to see something else

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Neate Michael on Dec 12, 2010 1:55:19 GMT 1, 18 colors, 17 x 25 + 1 x 75 = 500 prints.
Personally I wish it was 18 colours and runs of 250 for each.
It would still sell out. I would still pay £450 for one. And it would mean the flippers would make less. And the charity would make more.
I really like the image, and the colours. And the fact it is Banksy. I do not care about the exclusivity part, and I bet most people on here wouldn't either, save for those who buy to sell.
Have to say, I agree with earlier posts that it is a shame that Banksy does not do more prints and larger print runs a la Shep F.
I think I stand more chance of winning the Euro Millions than a print from the lottery, but I am in there. I hope genuine fans win the lottery prints. Unlikely I guess. But one can always hope.

It can be said that POW are at fault for their lack of preparation. Being in the US, my only experience has been reading the threads for the overnight que for NBG and CYW. Last year the thread read like a great party I couldn't attend. This year, not so much.
There is something to be said about organization.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Wearology on Dec 12, 2010 2:28:03 GMT 1, Is it the art? Is is the potential profit? Is it the chase? We should ask ourselves what is it that we all desire from the Banksy experience. Maybe it is the fact that we are witnessing history in real time. Banksy is our generations Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Fab Five Freddie all wrapped into one elusive mofo. Sir Banksy is our Picasso !!!!!!!

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by sashaz on Dec 12, 2010 2:29:35 GMT 1, at first i thought this was just an obvious print. However I have now ended up thinking its really good. The haring reference is obvious but there are a few meanings there. The weapon of choice for some street guys is a big scary dog that they can use to protect them. Some artists use references to past artists to strengthen and also validate their own messages. The "ease" of using this method in art is almost a mirror for the ease that some use the dog as a weapon without having any fighting prowess. The whole idea is a catch 22 for both the message and the method of the message delivery. Thus excellent in my eyes (also in some of the colourways it looks extra awesome)!

Yeah but so few of each colourway after a while these will settle into collectors hands and you won't see many of these colors come up again. Now if it were an edition of 250 a piece then you gotta point cuz eBay would look like a skittle machine for years. ;D
