Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by amsterdam9697 on Dec 13, 2010 6:36:47 GMT 1, Neither would a time release that ends up being an edition of 15,000. A big part of Banksy's desirability is because they are rare, a time release would take that away. POW is smarter than that.
I disagree... and agree. I don't care if it's an edition of 15,000 if it's a quality image (No Trespassing, for instance), on quality paper, screened, signed and numbered. As a collector who spends $20K+ a year on this 'hobby' that would make my day and I would be more than happy...
I agree regarding the rare factor. However, most fans of Banksy (at this point) don't care if it's an edition of 25 or 15,000... again, most of us just want a quality Banksy image on quality paper, screened, numbered and signed by 'the man.'
Don't know if this has been mentioned, but surely the obvious way to have handled the off-line sale would have been to sell raffle tickets at the M&S show VLH style. This would have raised loads more for charity and cut out the problem of thugs getting hold of them through intimidation. The obvious way to handle a future Banksy release is a timed release through POW for 24 hours. 2 per customer. Window of 24 hours to purchase the print(s). Edition size based on final sale numbers. Signed & Numbered. Similar to Audrey Kawasaki, Aaron Horkey, EMEK, etc. YES, it would take a few months for the entire edition of be signed, numbered and shipped, but give me ONE REASON why that's not a good idea? You're raising funds for charity. Why not satisfy the collectors demand, generate as much for charity as possible and MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY in the process? ... and regarding the posts about the Don't Panic editions, Bristol Show, Monkey Parliment, etc.... C'mon! Seriously... who are you trying to kid? Those are open editions of glossy, unsigned posters like the Farrah Fawcett's that you can still buy at the County Fair here in the US. I get where you're coming from, but in no way does that meet the collector's desire and demand for a quality Banksy release that's obtainable without being threatened by Ivan from Stalingrad... or Minsk... or Warsaw... or Bucharest...
Seriously... am I right or am I right?

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by raiden on Dec 13, 2010 7:01:50 GMT 1, Clearly, any method in which I don't get a print is unfair
I didn't have the ability to chime in previously after getting banned from the forum for 24 hours (a first) though probably deservedly so after breaking my own rule of never criticizing those who aren't sufficiently famous enough to absorb the criticism. In this case, I was definitely unduly harsh to Simon and Dora (who are actually super nice and I shouldn't have laid so much blame upon.)
Nevertheless, this could have been much much worse. Just like a concert promoter who puts on an event where people get trampled, POW as a gallery and Banksy deserve quite a bit of blame for putting people in harms way in how this was handled and need to take ownership of the fact that prints are going for nearly half the salary of the average American at a time when the world economy is terrible.
That's a recipe for disaster. Like I said before, most bank robberies don't net the amount a Banksy print does at this point.
---
Any future live releases should be done much like VLH, where you have a live lottery.
One possibility, you must come down and buy your ticket for ยฃ5 ticket between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am and you must be present as numbers are called at 8:00 am. Tickets are registered in a person's name, so you can't go buy one for a friend. One print per person per credit card.
And set a prohibition on flipping the print for one year, such that if a particular numbered work is flipped, you are forever barred from purchasing a Banksy again on a name, credit card, and email basis.
---
Any future online lotteries should be on a one per person, per email, per credit card basis. In order to register, you must pay ยฃ10 toward a charity.
Once again, ownership could not change hands for a year on these.
This keeps it mostly to people who really want the print, such that they are willing to risk ยฃ10 to get it. This method would significantly reduce, not eliminate, any of the typical hanky panky: registering multiple emails, having friends and family register on your behalf, using any automated systems, etc.
---
I also liked the idea behind Santa's Ghetto in Bethlehem. I was hoping it would be an annual concept to take a show to some far off, under privileged place.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by sand on Dec 13, 2010 7:27:51 GMT 1, Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that we arrived well back home. We'll (better known as german couple) write a longer statement tomorrow, that you'll see a banksy release through the eyes of a "tourist". Big hugs, to all the guys & ladies we met out there in big dark London.
Good to hear you both got home safely! It was a pleasure to meet you both!

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by mishylane on Dec 13, 2010 7:33:12 GMT 1, If you were a die-hard fan you would have been following the clues and have been there in time. It's crap that people rocked up late and felt like they deserve to be in the line. They clearly don't. Where's your respect? All they deserve is a fat kick up the ass.
So sorry to all the people that missed out after their huge effort.
I'm in Australia and have enetered the lotto.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by TheCatalyst on Dec 13, 2010 8:17:06 GMT 1, Just about to log off for the night, after catching up on all the thread shenanigans.
Wishing everyone good luck in the lottery tomorrow when those magic numbers get pulled. Here's hoping at least one of the prints end up in someone's hands from this place.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by grafik on Dec 13, 2010 8:44:16 GMT 1, A combination of all three, AND later arriving in time and watching my position fall very quickly (10mins) Sorry 70-100 people being paid to queue and arriving en masse to queue, sorry i didn't spend a lot of hours travelling see that happen.Very far from being alone in this though i won't name 'n shame them as i see no shame in that situation. Queue counters were very frequent and each count was 15 -20 to me.It was do nothing and end up in the 300's,go home or take action From the people i've heard who did the same and (oddly enough all being hangers rather than sellers) they too are glad they took action
sorry but i cant let this go, This chap is saying it was right for him to push in! Just because he had come from far away and he is going to keep ths print. He also mentioned earlier he punched a guy a few times, I don't care in what situation you were in, Q jumping and violence isn't right
YOU SHOULD HANG YOUR HEAD VERY LOW.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by webby on Dec 13, 2010 8:50:24 GMT 1, grafik: All weekend i have read your posts, and at stages, i had tears in my eyes for you. Nobody should go through what you and others went through. Just remember you are the decent fella in the end for not being involved in the sh!t that was going on. Just think how you would feel if you obtained a Banksy through deception, self morale if much higher than any print.
Pow should be ashamed as well as Banksy, who is a total sell out.
I wish you all the best today, i have offered my print up o any one on the forum at cost if i am lucky today, and feel you would be an ideal person to offer it too first.
Peace.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by pokodogo on Dec 13, 2010 9:57:59 GMT 1, It just shows what a sorry state of affairs the whole ordeal has been ..........
over 20 % of the prints released in store by POW have ended up been FLIPPED tried to be FLIPPED already, in my eyes this is a total disgrace and just shows the greed of human nature today.
Although there is no right or wrong way to release the prints surely theres something that can be done (selling nearer market value perhaps).
Anyway GL to all in the draw, I would like to think it would be nice if some genuine forum members managed to grab one, but i set a spread at under 10 !!!!
