Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by EYESAW on Dec 12, 2010 4:00:00 GMT 1, Is it the art? Is is the potential profit? Is it the chase? We should ask ourselves what is it that we all desire from the Banksy experience. Maybe it is the fact that we are witnessing history in real time. Banksy is our generations Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Fab Five Freddie all wrapped into one elusive mofo. Sir Banksy is our Picasso !!!!!!!
Relational Aesthetics !!!!

I think pow should only sell to overseas buyers at random, none of us on the this side of the pond have the option of not writing or could pop over to queue up

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by pcant on Dec 12, 2010 7:18:41 GMT 1, Gary, Did you ever do an offer on D*Face No More Heros, or did no one actually buy one to keep? Fingers crossed I get a Chose Your Weapon and I will definately go with this offer. I didn't do an offer, but could! Only seen one go through so far.
I definitely hung mine, looks smashing (fine work by Barbara Anderson Gallery in Berkeley, CA, if anyone needs a good Bay Area framer). Gary, I'm far too far away to take advantage, but if I lived closer, I'd be in line as well. Of course, I'm not going to get a Choose Your Weapon (I'm in the lottery, but please...), but I like your work, having seen so much of it on this forum.

Well anything is possible. Whilst Warhol is now a sensation I have no take on how popular he was when he was at the same stage of his career as banksy. I know he was in with the in crowd and was involved in loads of different projects but did he have the mass appeal that banksy now has?
What is clear is that banksy resonates with so many people. His art is very relevant to the society we live in. It's impossible to speculate about whether he will be our andy Warhol but what is clear is that we are living a fascinating period in contemporary art history where the influence of the internet and social media is having a profound effect on the way that we all view (and consume) art.

I'm not sure I would describe the money as going to charity but rather going to a political cause which banksy (and for that matter I) agrees with.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by F*X on Dec 12, 2010 9:11:06 GMT 1, I have only just woken up after the debacle that was Friday/Saturday morning I was lucky enough to get a print. On collection POW told me that COAs would have to be applied for later on line in order to "stop instant flipping". Judging by the flee-bay links at the top of the page this does not seem to be working however. Sorry if this has been posted before. I can't yet face reading the 30 pages I have missed.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by pcant on Dec 12, 2010 9:28:49 GMT 1, All those ads at the top of the page (I think I checked them all) are missing any mention of a COA. Every seemingly legit eBay ad or forum post selling a signed Banksy makes it perfectly clear that it comes with one, it's important if you're going to spend thousands of pounds (I know they can be faked, but that's another issue).
Lots of other enticing language about limited run, sold out immediately, all that (especially the guy with the long absurd story about "selling it for his friend who has a massive overdraft"), but nothing about proving it's not a fake. Also, the gall of asking 10K for it and still making the buyer (read: idiot) pay 20 quid for shipping is breathtaking. I guess if they're taking piles of money from idiots, might as well pile some more on top.
I do hope applying for COA later ruins it for the greedheads. Yet another reason (besides the insane price) to not buy one.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by spencerlee on Dec 12, 2010 9:31:28 GMT 1, Well, it's good to hear some people off the forum lucked out. I actually love this print, think it's one of his best for a while. Simple, some nice colourways.
I didn't make the trip for precisely the reasons listed in this thread. I don't mind waiting, but the pushing and shoving would f**k me off. I don't feel entitled to anything, but it's about simple fairness and the right thing.
As for POW. Well their hearts are in the right place so I suppose the most they could be accused of is naivety. A plan, 6 security guards (for the whole night and morning), a camera and some raffle tickets would surely have seen much better execution of the whole affair?

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 12, 2010 9:34:32 GMT 1, Great post Lee3 and perhaps you're right and I'm approaching this from a too simplistic perspective? On the alternative maybe the image is what it says on the tin - commentary on the 'evolution' of society with Keith Haring's body of work being referred to just because it's relevant and available - low hanging fruit if you like.....
As you say, unlikely to get the definitive.
Could never get my head around Donuts either......

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by gironawatch on Dec 12, 2010 9:35:54 GMT 1, am with you lee3, This is a nice prints and ed of 25. The one for sale now are from People who bought it to make money, like estudents etc. in few week those prints will go to collectors and gallery and they will tag the price of those. From my point of view this will be one of the top prints by B in the future, nice colours, nice message delivery, small ed and weaker print. I will love get one of the greey one to to hang it next to my NBG.

Is this a bit of a contradiction - it's one of his top prints but also weak

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by naughtyshorty on Dec 12, 2010 9:55:28 GMT 1, im not convinced not issuing an instant COA does stop instant flipping. if you want to get your hands on the print, and you know none of them have coa's them the fact the one you're buying doesnt have one, doesnt really matter so much. i guess its all relative, but thats just my perspective on it.
are there really 18 different colourways??!!!!1

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by hlarmy on Dec 12, 2010 10:10:25 GMT 1, After 100 pages of speculation and story telling, some good posts now appearing (Lee3, Pez etc)... which after reading make me feel that all the effort, and gamble, was worth it ... and subsequently more proud to own Choose Your Weapon (I also love the fact that it has 25 on the bottom left hand corner, rather than in the hundreds ;D).
I do hope the lottery ones go to those that deserve it.
My mission for the next week or so, is to take Lee's advice and try and get a better understanding of Haring's work, as I think this will only make me appreciate the print more than if I didn't...

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by pcant on Dec 12, 2010 10:10:55 GMT 1, I see your point. I didn't need a COA (just confirmation from Pest Control) when I bought my Banksy because I was hanging it on the wall. And anyone buying it for £10K is probably going to hang it (I can't imagine they'd be hoping to flip it for more), so you're probably right. Ah well, just some hopeful schandenfreude.

This is one of my favourite banksy prints due to the Haring dog. I have the MBW Chocolate Vandal that has a Haring image on it also and it is one of my favourite prints due to that also.
Getting a better understanding of Harings work will definitely make you appreciate the print more.
Well done on getting one!
