To be fair - all that info was available before the print went on sale so if people weren't happy with the cause they shouldn't have queued up or entered the lottery

Was the "dodgy dealing" from POW staff a common knowledge?

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by goaty on Dec 13, 2010 23:19:59 GMT 1, Banksy pledges £80,000 to Russian radical art group Voinaguardian.co.uk, Sunday 12 December 2010 17.44 GMT Proceeds of Banksy print sale will go to Voina collective, two of whom are awaiting trial over anti-corruption protest Voina's exploits have included throwing cats at McDonald's workers 'to alleviate their boredom'. Photograph: Thomas Peter/Reuters Oleg Vorotnikov, 35, and Leonid Nikolayev, 27, were detained in Moscow last month and charged in connection with an anti-corruption protest called Palace Revolution in St Petersburg in September, when members of Voina overturned several police cars in the centre of the city. They could face up to seven years in prison. Police claim the group caused thousands of pounds worth of damage, but Russia's tight-knit art community has called for their release, saying the charges are excessive. Voina has directed many of its actions at state officials and politicians, saying they are part of a war for the "destruction of outdated repressive-patriarchal socio-political symbols and ideologies". Alexei Plutser-Sarno, Voina's chief ideologue, told the Guardian that Banksy had contacted the group after hearing about the imprisoned pair. "We're very grateful for his support," he said. "Banksy's help will attract the attention of the whole world to the personal repression aimed at us, as well as to the greater problem of liquidation of democracy in Russia." Plutser-Sarno fled from Russia to Estonia last month, claiming he had information that police were about to arrest him. He claimed that Vorotnikov and Nikolayev had plastic bags placed over their heads when they were arrested and police kicked them in the head and kidneys as they lay on the floor of a vehicle. Voina carried out one of its most scandalous acts in June when members painted a 65-metre erect p***s on a drawbridge in St Petersburg. When raised, the decoration faced the city headquarters of the FSB, the federal security service. Two years ago, members of Voina staged an orgy in Moscow's state biological museum under a banner reading "f**k for the heir, Little Bear". Dmitry Medvedev, now Russian president, whose surname comes from the Russian word for bear, was to stand in elections a few days later and was widely seen as the anointed successor of Vladimir Putin, now prime minister. In other exploits, Voina members have thrown cats at McDonald's workers to "alleviate their boredom" and staged mock hangings of homosexuals in criticism of remarks made by Moscow's former mayor, Yuri Luzhkov, that gay pride marches were "satanic". Banksy, who could not be reached for comment, may feel that Voina's mischievous and politically cutting street art chimes with his own efforts, such as hanging spoof masters at Tate Britain and painting graffiti on the West Bank separation wall. "Some people become cops because they want to make the world a better place," he once wrote. "Some people become vandals because they want to make the world a better looking place." www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2010/dec/12/banksy-russia-voina-donationRead more: THESE RUSSIAN GUYS ARE SCUM. I'd still have liked a print - I like it a lot. I don't think the cat throwing thing was Voina's greatest hour and I don't expect that Banksy even thought of that when deciding to help them out financially.

What I found funny was how the guys at POW seemed to know these guys at the front and even shook hands with them when they arrived in the morning. And again it was funny how these guys were at the front of the queue before anyone else arrived at Commercial street as if they were tipped off

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 13, 2010 23:31:15 GMT 1, Isnt Banksy middle class?Arent the vast majority of artists and collectors of this scene middle class? Donating to probably middle class cat tossing Russians is going to help the poor as much as the multi millionaires are me thinks. What a stupid view of the world and politics, firstly the idea of middle class is quite senseless, yes you may have a pepper grinder and a ps3 and drive a ford mondeo but your still a working class if you relay on someone to pay your labour. That aside, was Jo Slovo, leader of the militant wing of the ANC black, no, he was a little fat white Jewish guy, was Gary Charles, Black Panther and civil rights lawyer Black, no, he was white as a polar bears paw, is Ken Loach living on benefits, I don't think so, is John Pilger Aborigine, no but he looks like Crocodile Dundee!! is Tony Benn Iraqi, what our Tony!!, is Jeremy Corbyn Muslim, he does have a beard but unfortunately he does not prey 5 times a day, does... NO NO NO NO NO NO NO But they all defended those groups and championed the cause of equality peace and justice. No one knows who Banksy is, it's all speculation, but he could come from the richest background known to man and it wouldn't erase what he stood for, what he championed and what he achieved. If you can be poor and vote Tory then you can sure as be rich and fight for the poor. Again... we're on a Banksy forum and I have to explain this? Ow how very dare you! ;D No you didnt have to explain that. Yes some do know who Banksy is. No its not supid.

Re: BANKSY "Choose Your Weapon" Print Release Nov 25, 2010, 2:26pm
Do people like the image or is it just because its banksy.
THIS PRINT IS SH1TE
Like i said to silky last week, I was told about this website by nelly duff but it seems to me people buy art just to sell it a few weeks later for a profit i.e. the dface no more heros.
If this was done by a 2pence artist would everyone be having a fit to get one or not so they can put it on Flee-Bay i dont think so.
Re: BANKSY "Choose Your Weapon" Print Release Nov 29, 2010, 8:54pm I think there is only one way to stop flippers. Sell the prints at the price flippers would sell them for, Sell the new print for £1000-£1500 I dont think POW/BANKSY will do this tho as this might scare of the flippers and the real fans might not be able to afford the inflated price. The thing pow and banksy dont want to have is a print which does not sell out which devalues them as well as the artist. POW/BANKSY im sure love reading all 19 pages on this forum about the print and hearing about the bun fight if you had to queue to get the new print but what is guarenteed is that at £450 it will sell out and these will command a £1000 premium on top.
Re: BANKSY "Choose Your Weapon" Print Release Dec 1, 2010, 4:55pm
Speak for yourselve jones. You have clearly come out with a comment that you are a flipper. You are only interested in banksy because its wanted by many and you can make a profit. My suggestion would be great to stop people like you flipping stuff.
But you nor I would be on here if true. <<<<<<SHUT UP Iwould be no matter what but you clearly dont want to hear about an open edition cos you wont make no money. Once again this site is cleary down to people trying to make a few poxy pound. PATHETIC
Re: Choose Your Weapon Ebay Price Dec 9, 2010, 10:43pm
This forum have to many undercover leeches all trying to earn a few pound before christmas. The new banksy print is crap and the majority of people know that but just because its banksy everyone wants it, so they can sell it on for profit. Open your eyes, there is alot more affordable and better art out there than banksy. Ive bought four prints than one poxy banksy which i wouldnt hang on my wall.
Re: What London's Student Protests Mean For the Fu Dec 9, 2010, 11:30pm
Im so glad you dont run this country as you'll probably run it as a dictatorship, Sounds like your way or the high way! Its got nothing to do with them thinking they deserve to go to uni it comes down to; if you aint got the money or prepared to take on the debt then you cant go to uni. Being able to afford to go to uni has got nothing to do with the persons being high achievers does it. Once again another knob head thinking soley about money and not the BIGGER picture. PR1CK
Re: BANKSY "Choose Your Weapon" Print Release Dec 9, 2010, 11:41pm Maybe i should of said, If this was not signed by banksy would you buy this? NO would be your answer! Pow please sell 10000 prints, all signed and hopefully all the people trying to buy a cheap beer will have to sell below what they paid for it HAH
Re: BANKSY "Choose Your Weapon" Print Release Dec 9, 2010, 11:58pm
Who took the jam out of your donut. Im clearly making a point in which im allowed too. This is a public forum where opinions can be voiced is it not? But once again my point will be raised that the majority of people on this board are more interested in making a few pound than appreciate other artists. Why cant banksy prices drastically drop and then all these plebs can F**K off!

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by James Baker on Dec 13, 2010 23:51:03 GMT 1, Blimey, just read a bit of this thread for the first time. All a bit rubbish really. Glad some of the you got your print. Times change hey. Seems far removed from the days of hovering over buy it now, for Soup Can Prints, pondering over it for days and working out where you will get £200 from. Anyway, I hope this made a few Christmas Days.

True, no need to bring animals into play. Just plain dumb.

One of the best things said on this thread, pow & banksy are not looking good here! Lack of research on charitable donation and terrible queue handling! Fail to prepare - Prepare to fail! Lets move on!
