As far as Hirst and many other more established artists go, when you buy a piece as "signed by the artist" with prov. then as long as the actual gallery/artist says its signed by the artist and sold as such, it doesn't matter who actually put pen to paper to produce the signature.
I can 100% guarantee you that Hirst (and Warhol for that matter) does not sign all their own work. Hirst was factory producing pieces on three continents at one point last decade, many of ther pieces that were sold he never even saw in the flesh, and in many cases wasn't even on the same continent when they were made and signed.
If an artist is happy enough to have his team actually produce art under his name do you really think he/she would be that bothered if the same team actually signed the pieces too?
I personally think that the last 4 or 5 prints haven't been personally signed by Banksy himself, maybe a/p's but there is no real need to sign things himself. Its sold as signed by Banksy which means it will be purchased on the secondary market as such.

On the other hand it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they couldn't be bothered, I mean for Christ sake, Hirst can't even be bothered to paint his own spot canvases!...and he's admitted that! So there is nothing to convince me he actually signs his prints (far to menial a task for such a self important artist)

It may not matter for resale, but it does to me. Warhol is the only artist who's work I would buy knowing it wasn't him who signed it.
