ABOUT THE ARTIST

Miss Bugs is a collaboration founded in the early part of 2007; consisting of two people – boy and girl – Miss (right) & Bugs. Preferring to keep a low profile, not much is known about Miss Bugs. The only info featured on Miss Bugs’ website is a Pablo Picasso quote: “If there is something to steal, I steal it!”

And in a way, that’s all we need to know. Miss Bugs’ work takes iconic imagery from pop culture and art history and reforms it using collage and other mixed media methods. Often their work sees the appropriating of Hirst’s spin painting, Koons’ sculptures, Mondriaan’s grids along with referencing hundreds of other contemporary artists and street art; all recomposed in their collages and silk screens to make their own newly reconstructed iconic pieces.

The work questions the very nature of the art establishment. It makes us question the ownership of ideas, working methods, and the relationship and knock-on effect that artists have with one another. Miss Bugs steals from many but by doing so they certainly make their own unique indelible mark; a Miss Bugs calling card at the scene of the crime!

They have exhibited in New York, LA and London and they continue to push boundaries. No more so is this evident than in their recent street project ‘Cut Out and Fade Out’. These poetically warped figures explore the idea of lost memory and the blending city landscape captures a fleeting sense of a forgotten story like an urban ghost just passing through.
